To the couple in the coffee queue who saw me at the other end of the barrier and didn't ask was I waiting or acknowledging I might have been there cefore them to the barrister

Were you at the correct end? Or were you waiting at a far flung end of rope when no-one was there... If neither of these apply then YANBU
