To not change my name because MNHQ is not 'entirely sure it works''

Is this a normal request? And why do they care? Confused

I'll do it if it makes them really happy though Smile

Keep it if you like it.
Your name says something about you because it's chosen by you.
Jamrag = Hmm
Anything with fuck or cunt = Hmm
But that's just MO.
Others have other opinions or don't give a toss.

JamRagRolyPoly · 18/03/2012 09:16

Jamrolypoly is taken! I'll think of another

PrisonerOfWaugh · 18/03/2012 09:18

how about JamSpongeRolyPoly which sounds entirely innocent ... but ... a jam sponge is also a menstrual device, so it retains some of the 'flavour' of the original name Wink

SaraBellumHertz · 18/03/2012 09:26

There has only ever been one name that I hated enough to even consider complaining about, although in fact I didn't.

I recognise you from a few of the feminist board threads and your opinions don't match the impression your name gives. Whether that says more about you or me I don't know, but my personal view is that you could do better than start from the point that you are a 14 year old boy who thinks periods are an embarrassment.

Matter for you though.

BobblyGussets · 18/03/2012 09:33

Would "SpottedDick" work for you OP?

OlympicEater · 18/03/2012 09:39

Agree it sounds like the sort of name that my DS and his mates would find hilarious.

jinsei · 18/03/2012 09:40

I have never come across the term jam rag. It is quite gross.

Boysrstupid · 18/03/2012 09:44

Don't change your name. Its you.

People don't like mine. They assume i'm referring to the young slugs and snails type boys (of which I am the proud owner of two very intelligent ones). Infact it's from a David&Goliath T-shirt I used to be able to squeeze into own. Aimed at the adult male population who infact make questionable decisions on a daily basis.

It's not intentionally offensive, it's just a bit of fun and if people don't like it -
Tough titties.

Tortington · 18/03/2012 09:46

i think your name is crude

but i'm a bit sick of the delecrate flowers on here who complain about names

i think they should eat shit

BuckBuckMcFate · 18/03/2012 09:52

Tbh I have noticed your name on here before and it makes me

It is one of those terms that I really don't like and have an almost physical reaction to. Hubby is at the top of the list though.

I think now I know the reason behind it I'll read it differently.

It's entirely up to you if you change it.

Tooblunt2012 · 18/03/2012 09:54

Until this thread, I didn't know what a jam rag was!!

Can't say it sounds pleasant, but if you like your name & it seems like it has meaning for you, then I'd keep it.

MardyBra · 18/03/2012 09:59

I don't like your name but I wouldn't have complained, but seeing as you asked...

I find it less acceptable than the sweary names. I think AnyFucker is genius (name and the poster! ). It's just that that jam rag has fairly negative connotations to the natural process of menstruation, and is the sort of term I would imagine being used by some sort of misogynist.

JugsMcGee · 18/03/2012 10:04

I can't say I give anyone's name that much thought, or read too much into their personality from it (unless it contains yummy mummy).

carabos · 18/03/2012 10:05

I've obviously led a very sheltered life. I had never heard the term "jam rag" until I clicked on this thread and now wish I hadn't.

Why on earth is 'jam rag' offensive? Confused It dosen't jump out as being a particularly misogynistic term. Period blood sometimes does look like jam.

I have never heard this term so may just be neing ignorant but don't see no wrong 'ere.

CaoNiMa · 18/03/2012 10:12

Not a lot of people know this, but my name means "fuck your mother" in Mandarin.

diddl · 18/03/2012 10:13

I rarely read/notice poster´s names either unless it becomes apparent that there is a "back story".

And then it´s often the story that sticks & not the name!

I think people are way overthinking this tbh.

I don't like your name. I lump it in with the other Trying Too Hard names. I certainly wouldn't report it, nor would I normally mention it, but since you are starting a thread about it... (Trying Too Hard, see?)

TheMonster · 18/03/2012 10:19

I don't like the term 'jam rag' but it doesn't bother me enough to be bothered by your user name.

Stangirl · 18/03/2012 10:22

Keep your name if you want to - you'll get no grief.

I think my name sounds like I'm some kind of surrendered woman to my DP. In fact I chose it in haste when I joined as I wanted to ask for advice about my miscarriage and "Stan" is actually my cat. I kept it as it is unlike any of my other internet names and so I maintain a veneer of anonimity.

JaneB1rkin · 18/03/2012 10:26

Custy Grin I love you

[copy and paste yet again]

I dunno...a lot of names pass me by, there's only a few that make me feel sick, anything with the word pus in it for a start so you can keep those.

Yours isn't too bad. I hate that thing MNHQ when they try and be diplomatic. It's just, you KNOW what they're getting at and it doesn't make it any easier to take.

Clearly someone has complained about it. That's all. It happens. Don't worry too much.

I don't like the original phrase as others have said as it's something boyz would say but it doesn't bother me much. Seen far far worse Smile

chipsandmushypeas · 18/03/2012 11:19

Best I could think of! Smile

I actually didn't realise it was such an offensive term, thought it was just slang for periods and because I'm failing at ttc I thought it was appropriate.

Stratters · 18/03/2012 11:23

Your name doesn't bother me, it's nobodies business but yours IMO. I really don't understand the nickname whingers.
