to be very happy with my new COUNCIL FLAT?

I actually am and I can't quite believe it! It is a pita to bring shopping up the 2 flights of stairs but that is something we will get used to. I keep forgetting when I nip to the supermarket with toddler DC4, to only pick up a few things and end up with 5 bags of stuff and then I remember I have to get up the stairs with him and them!!

Apart from that, the flat is easy to keep clean (all on one level), we have 2 brand new balconies big enough to sit out on and grow some stuff on. The whole block's exterior has also been painted. We have a shared garden which the other 2 flats don't use so they have said they are fine with our trampoline being put up. The neighbours seem quiet, only hear them close their doors really. There are always spaces right outside the entrance door for our 2 cars and it is bloody cheap - £378 per month! We have not seem the benefit of that this month as we had to buy quite a bit of stuff - new cooker, curtains and rugs which came to over £600 but from next month we should be much better off. The area is actually a more 'sought after' part of town so we have been told and is much greener and there is a park/cycle track right next door, much better than the area we were living in and paying £900 for a mouldy house in.

I have also discovered that we are walking distance from the train station (about 15 mins) so I can return to work in London when I find a job and childcare and feeling positive about that) without having to pay out extra for petrol to station and car park fees which are extortionate here.

Oh we were also given a free paint pack from the council, could choose our colour scheme and it included enough for the whole place (3 beds) even down to gloss for skirting boards, masking tape and dust sheet. Over £200 pounds worth. There was laminate down already throughout the whole flat so the only flooring we had to put down was in the loo and bathroom.

I cannot believe that I feel rather happy and secure here. DCs are fine with it and it's closer to their schools. Total transformation in my way of thinking because I was terrified before we actually moved in. It actually sort of feels like we are in a holiday apartment. AIBU to extremely grateful to my local council who I had thought were fucking bastards!?

We have already used all the paint thanks. We got our first weeks rent here free so we could do it up before we moved in while still paying the rent on our old house.

Free? Wow ya dont say!!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 17/03/2012 14:40

And then you woke up?

WorraLiberty · 17/03/2012 14:40

And how strong were the paint fumes?

Perhaps that could explain this...

alistron1 · 17/03/2012 14:42

@schobe - you made me laugh out loud then!!

OP, I am happy that you have space for your 2 cars.

OMFFG · 17/03/2012 14:42

This is all absolutely true.

WorraLiberty · 17/03/2012 14:44

This is all absolutely true

It's also absolutely true that my dog has his anal glands squeezed on the last Saturday of every month.

However, I don't feel the need to regularly update MN on it.....

Frigging groundhog day for real Hmm

OMFFG · 17/03/2012 14:51

If you are bored, then go away - off you go - toodle pip. Why post if you don't give a shit?

I just thought I would post a 'good news' story but I am sure most of you would have preferred that I posted about the neighbours being druggies and the DC slipping in the piss on the stairs (which are actually very clean - not sure who's doing them).

Laurie this is not a lie and I have never said it was.

Oh in other good news...... I have had an additional TC payment into my bank account which I discovered this morning and I now have an extra £200 to spend this week! Things are definitely on the up - sorry.

I'm more likely to believe Worra than you - because I recognise her name and she doesn't seem the type to make up stuff about other posters.

I do remember the bit where you said you had more than 2 grand extra after all bills a month once you moved ....... that's quite a lot extra isn't it?

sairygamp · 17/03/2012 15:03

How very lovely. Fancy, all that fuss about wanting a house and you land on your feet after all. I hope you win the lottery tonight, on the other hand, if I win, I'll mail it across to you....

Labootin · 17/03/2012 15:03

I'm having a strong feeling of deja vu here...

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 17/03/2012 15:07

OMFFG

I used to work for tax credits. If you've received an extra payment in a week its because they're amended your payments so you probably have a much reduced payment next week Grin

Bobyan · 17/03/2012 15:13

FFS you think they would have let you have a house, especially as you have a trampoline.

MargaretOfFanjo · 17/03/2012 15:20

Have I entered a parallel universe? I am very happy that things have worked out for you . Are people in council flats not allowed to be happy?
