Might upset the Atheists, though - after all.......he is a Saint. Atheists get very upset at any hint of religion.

axure · 17/03/2012 13:08

Why? Ireland is a foreign country. YABU.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/03/2012 13:09

YANBU they mention everything else.

Grag · 17/03/2012 13:09

Do they mention St Georges Day?

fedupofnamechanging · 17/03/2012 13:10

Agree with axure. It's nothing to do with us really, so why mention it?

gamerwidow · 17/03/2012 13:11

It's celebrated in Northern Ireland too. Did they do the other saints days? If so YANBU otherwise YABU.

GhastlyBespoke · 17/03/2012 13:13

Agree with posters who said if they mentioned St George's and St Andrews etc then maybe but it doesn't twist my knickers. You could mention it yourself and do the shamrock making yourself if it concerns you.

nagynolonger · 17/03/2012 13:14

Did they mention St. David's day? I can't see why it matters really. You could always sit DC down to watch the rugby later.

Mine are watching Italy v Scotland at the moment.......We are all cheering on Italy!

ZonkedOut · 17/03/2012 13:15

St Patrick is the patron saint of Northern Ireland too, and his day is a public holiday there. There's also a lot of Irish living in the UK.

I have no idea if they mentioned St George's day, St Andrew's day or St David's day though.

habbibu · 17/03/2012 13:16

Oh, nonsense OldGrey. At most some of us mildly question why the state thinks it has a role to ensure that children worship a specific god, but getting hysterical over st paddy? Has some atheist website imploded At The Very Thought? Don't recall cbeebies doing saints Andrew, David or George, but Dd reckons they've covered st p on the celebrations prog.

MadameMessy · 17/03/2012 13:16

yabu.
its made by the British broadcasting corporation, not radio teilifis eireann, the Irish state broadcaster.
and its a saints day

NorfolkNChance · 17/03/2012 13:19

I'm sure Let's Celebrate will be on later with the St Patricks episode.

PosiePumblechook · 17/03/2012 13:19

Oh God no, I'm already fed up with people wishing me a happy St Paddy's day. I couldn't give a shit. I'm English and an atheist.

doradaisy · 17/03/2012 13:19

Yes, but surely St. Patrick's Day is a more of a worldwide festival than say St. George's day.
It's not just about him being the patron saint of Ireland but as so many Irish live abroad it's celebrated in a big was in the US, Canada and even places like Korea/China, etc etc.

AIBU?

(am Irish BTW - Grin )

cunexttuesonline · 17/03/2012 13:20

It's on at 525pm.

MadameMessy · 17/03/2012 13:22

ok, well would you expect there to be a mention of the 4 th of July?

I think yabu.
am also Irish

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/03/2012 13:23

No it shouldn't.

I find the fact that the Irish demand the whole world acknowledge it really annoying tbh!

And WTF has the fact that loads of Irish live in GB got to do with it? Confused Lots of English people live in Spain, or France, or Australia. Should we therefore demand that they celebrate St.Georges Day?

axure · 17/03/2012 13:24

I live in NI, been to the parade in Belfast in previous years which is quite nice; then a nasty atmosphere descends in the afternoon when young hoods who are worse for drink run round waving tricolours trying to antagonise youths from the other side of the community who are just as bad singing Sectarian songs etc. God only knows what tourists make of it. 12th July no better.

PosiePumblechook · 17/03/2012 13:25

I have to say I have no idea what Patrick actually did....nor do most people that drink green Guinness.

MordecaiAndTheRigbys · 17/03/2012 13:25

Ali Irish people don't demand that otherscelebrate st Patrick day. What a ridiculous suggestion....

Firawla · 17/03/2012 13:26

they will have lets celebrate, as they do for most festivals. so yabu

MadameMessy · 17/03/2012 13:27

Alibaba, I don't think there is a demand that anyone celebrates it Confused
its hardly like Christmas, is it?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/03/2012 13:27

Mordecai - what is this thread, if not a demand that St.Patricks Day be acknowledged...

MadameMessy · 17/03/2012 13:29

acknowledged is hardly celebrated Alibaba. why are you so opposed to it being acknowledged?

NorfolkNChance · 17/03/2012 13:31

Are you a snake Alibaba Hmm
