BIL and his fiance getting married...on our 1 year anniversary

OK - I will start by saying I am delighted my BIL and SIL to be are getting married. I love them both. Just received my our invite. They have chosen a date in November for the London part of their wedding (the legal bit will be abroad) - it has been described by SIL as being a Big White Wedding and will be v exciting. I love weddings. My slight beef is the fact that the date is our wedding anniversary. It will be our first. I don't think I own that date or something, and actually I think its quite sweet its on the same day but they haven't mentioned it. Is that strange?? No "how funny we are getting married on the same day" or "Nov is a great time of year to get married!!" NOTHING. AIBU to think they might have mentioned it??

Hollyfoot · 17/03/2012 09:39

Oh I do love a superb GUPFB thread.

Thank you OP, I've really enjoyed this.

All's good with the world.

:)

Ooh, am loving this. It's up there with my SIL refusing to come to my sister's "big" birthday celebration because it was scheduled for her own (SIL's) "normal" birthday. (No other date available that we could all make). Couldn't share the limelight you see.

Thought of this thread last night on meeting my BIL's girlfriend's brother's fiancée, who told me she texted BIL on announcing her engagement to ask him not to propose to his girlfriend until after her wedding Hmm

See it wouldn't bother me as the op but I wouldnt have wanted to do that if it was me planning the wedding
but as everyone keeps saying the only person who remembers these things are mums then why hasn't whichever mother they share said something (assuming she is around )

HandMadeTail · 18/03/2012 16:09

I deliberately didn't get married on Valentines Day, because I thought it would be too popular, and I wouldn't be able to book anything. (And I may have been right.) but we did get married a few days after Valentines Day, which means two big "romantic" days in one week.

My DH and I work together, and sometimes one of our staff members buys us an anniversary card, and I always sort of think "what's it to do with you?" but obviously, in her family/circle of friends that is normal, so I don't make anything of it. Smile

blubberyboo · 18/03/2012 16:17

they just haven't realised ppl don't remember dates of other ppl's weddings..take the opportunity to have a good night out and why not make it into a long weekend so that you get some private time too to celerate

blubberyboo · 18/03/2012 16:20

....and i'm sure no matter whatever date they picked it would have clashed with somebody's anniversary be it birth death or marriage..

IloveJudgeJudy · 18/03/2012 16:49

I'm going to go against the flow and say that I know exactly what you mean, OP. DB2 deliberately waited some months so that he didn't get married too near DB1's wedding. In our family, weddings are a big deal, with lots of family getting together who don't always see each other very often, but make an effort for weddings.

What the OP is talking about is her DH's bro choosing to get married on the same date as his own brother, and just a year later. that is quite weird.

OriginalJamie · 18/03/2012 17:50

It really isn't

exoticfruits · 18/03/2012 17:51

The only weird thing is minding.
