That I haven't properly brushed my DD's teeth for three days!!?

My DD is nearly 17mo...

It seems a completely new thing as she was fine on monday night... but tuesday morning came around and she absolutely screamed like a banshee when I tried to brush her teeth, pushing me and the toothbrush away, getting hysterical.

Same thing that night, the whole of wednesday and yesterday...

She stayed at my parents the weekend as I was away and my mum said she was also fine there.

It seems a very trivial problem but I'm not sure what to do! This morning, I confess, I didn't try!

Should I take her to a dentist? Is she too young? She has quite a lot of teeth but not too that many molars.

No, I'd take her to the dentist if you can't see anything wrong yourself.

That way if you get the all clear and she still persists, you'll just have to up your game I'm afraid

Ds has been going to the dentist since before he had teeth.

I am afraid when it comes to teeth brushing Ds knows he either let's me do it or I will do it while he screams and fights me off. I let him 'brush' them himself then I take over.

Can you let d do it herself for a couple of days?

After watching the Tonight programme about 4 year olds having virtually all teeth extracted due to decay DON'T give up the fight!

I'd take her to the dentist OP just to rule anything out.

I'd also maybe take her to the supermarket and let her choose a new toothbrush that she likes?

Snap!!! 2 days here, 10 months old. I try, morning and night, but he clamps his mouth closed or screams. Hes just cutting a tooth he'll be fine soon.

Is your DD teething? The canines are particularly painful for them.

One thing I used to do with dd when she was about this age and absolutely hated having her teeth brushed was to give her my toothbrush (without toothpaste on) and let her 'brush' my teeth whilst I brushed her teeth at the same time, I did get jabbed in the gums on numerous occasions but it actually worked and allowed me to brush her teeth properly!

She probably just wants to do it herself. Let her and then she might let you give them a once over at the end. She's at an age where she's starting to develop a real sense of her own independence and you need to go along with it, whilst ensuring that she's got clean teeth ;)

Thanks everyone, not sure she'll pick out her own toothbrush, more like grab every toothbrush and throw them straight to the floor

But I'll give everything else a try... and book her a dentist appointment. She has all her front teeth, its just a few molars that aren't through yet. I have a real thing about nice teeth so this has been driving me mad!
