and have suffered health consequences that could have been prevented by breastfeeding?

Deary me... If we all kept our mouth shut when we might offend someone, none of us would have much to say, would we?!

If you ff by choice then there is no need for you to be so defensive, if it wasn't by choice then why would anonymous words on a screen be such a big deal? Everyone knows the fact that ff is nowhere near as nutritious as bf, not talking about these facts doesn't make it any less true.

Morning Richocet. Are we really going to have another day of this?

SoupDragon · 16/03/2012 08:18

"Everyone knows the fact that ff is nowhere near as nutritious as bf, not talking about these facts doesn't make it any less true."

No, but the fact that many people who have EBF are telling you your idea is idiotic and offensive should give you some clues as to the fact that it shouldn't have been said.

MadameChinLegs · 16/03/2012 08:28

I was BFd and I have eczema. My DD if FF and she has eczema. Should I not have had a child, so that I didn;t pass eczema on? Will my child sue me for that?

Where will this end?

exoticfruits · 16/03/2012 08:32

If your mother had told you that you were breastfed you would be perfectly happy!
If that is all that you can hold against your mother there can't be much wrong. Probably there are other issues. As an adult it doesn't matter-you are responsible for your own diet now.
I breast fed all mine-they have never asked and would look at me as if I was utterly batty if I thought it important.

pigletmania · 16/03/2012 08:35

Ricocet you are totally missing the point, words do hurt, this topic is a very sensitive area for a lot of women, as they have had problems bf and feel rubbish that they had to give formula, for some your insensitive and nasty comments may be enough to tip them over the edge especially if they have PND to boot, so yes words on a screen do mean an awful lot to some. You walk in a mile of somebody who has struggled to bf and then make your nasty horrid comments.

pigletmania · 16/03/2012 08:37

you were ff op, your poor poor mother, does she know how you feel, mabey you should show her this thread to make her feel a whole lot better about bringing you up.

ArielNonBio · 16/03/2012 08:40

Oh I have only read the first line and am laughing my head off! Thanks OP! Grin

What a fucking stupid thing to say. She wasn't serious was she? Was she?

TandB · 16/03/2012 08:51

[sticks head in from inflated solicitor's bill thread]

How are we doing on the multi-party action? Do I have lots of new clients who I can bill vast amounts of money to achieve fat-cat lawyer status?

I can make one of those ambulance-chaser adverts if it would help. I will wear a shiny suit and stride powerfully towards the screen declaring "Formula fed? Not your fault? I am ready to help. I am a real lawyer with real qualifications and I will charge you a really large amount of money."

Richocet · 16/03/2012 09:02

You do know formula was invented as a prescription only medicine, for orphans or babies that were physically unable to breastfeed. Not to give women a choice, to stop babies dying. A last resort.

Perhaps there will be an invention soon that will mean women don't have to go through pregnancy, or labour, might not be the best for the baby, but hey, if it makes the mothers life easier....

ArielNonBio · 16/03/2012 09:10

Sorry - I'm in a hurry, but have you answered the question on the first page about what you propose for women who are unable to BF because of medical issues? Should they be banned from procreating?

Just out of interest.

Haziedoll · 16/03/2012 09:10

I don't even know if I was bf or ff, never thought to ask my mother. She fed me corned beef sandwiches and instant whip for lunch, perhaps I should sue her for that?

AlpinePony · 16/03/2012 09:10

I think you children will be able to sue you for being a mentalist who built their life around their boob glands.

sairygamp · 16/03/2012 09:11

I'm waiting for my eldest daughter to sue me because I had severe post natal depression which made me unable to be the best mother I could for a while, my middle child to sue me because I had a problem with alcohol for a time in his childhood oh, and the biggie, my youngest to take me to the cleaners as I passed on a genetic condition. Perhaps i should hand myself in now, because the guilt isn't quite enough.

Richocet · 16/03/2012 09:12

Bf can be fucking hard. As can labour, but you don't get a choice in labor... Although I did ask if the midwife could take over during transition with my last Blush

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 16/03/2012 09:13

OP, how will you be grading those who "try hard enough" to produce breastmilk vs. Those who don't choose. Will they be awarded marks out of ten depending on size of eye bags, damp snot-rags and rows with husband? Is the proposal to simply kill all the baybees whose mother choose not to bf?

Btw, Iran gives out formula only on prescription - is that actually what you're proposing? You want women's rights to echo those of iran? Holy smokes!

ArielNonBio · 16/03/2012 09:13

You do get a choice in labour, surely? You can request pain relief? Or a planned section?

Are they sue-able actions as well?

pigletmania · 16/03/2012 09:14

God sakes op you are really something, or a troll wind up merchant. I really hope that no vulnerable mothers who have MH issues read this thread.

Richocet · 16/03/2012 09:14

There are things available to make bf easier too

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 16/03/2012 09:14

I chose an elcs.

ArielNonBio · 16/03/2012 09:16

Good God, Alps, you'd better get ready to see your kids in court. Start saving.

Richocet · 16/03/2012 09:16

Piglet- vulnerable mothers who have mental health issues should perhaps steer clear of MN, particularly AIBU altogether.

OP posts:
pigletmania · 16/03/2012 09:16

Like what op!

AlpinePony · 16/03/2012 09:16

Do you understand that when you tell a woman what she must do with her body (lactate and breastfeed), you are no better than anyone who denies rape. That is, you say it's ok for a woman's body to be used against her will.

Wow.
