we treated each other in the way we would like to be treated?

Certainly if those in charge could learn this lesson.

lisad123 · 14/03/2012 23:04

Well gods words are always right Grin
Shame it's never going to happen.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 14/03/2012 23:11

Oh yes - I have very strong childhood memories of Mrs DoAsYouWouldBeDoneBy and Mrs BeDoneByAsYouDid. Never managed to live up to their qualities though.

MyLittleMiracle · 14/03/2012 23:11

It should happen, why does there need to be so much nastiness, and within famillies etc, its just a world full of hate, this isnt right! Just a bit of common denceny would be appreciated!

NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 14/03/2012 23:12

Would this apply to management too? Because I think Senior management need to learn this lesson at my place of work.

MyLittleMiracle · 14/03/2012 23:13

But even trying to live up to this would be a start! It feels like people ENJOY each others misery, notice how a soap like eastenders is boring to us unless someone is suffering!

MyLittleMiracle · 14/03/2012 23:14

And it should apply to everyone, no one should be excluded, you should never ask amyone to do something you wouldnt do!

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 14/03/2012 23:40

but we don't all wish to be treated the same. look at any threads on here which have to do with censorship etc.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 14/03/2012 23:43

I think Mayorquimby makes a good point, I've always questioned that.

I hate surprises for example, if someone organised a surprise party for me I'd hate them, but other people consider it a really lovely thing to do for someone. I think you should treat people as they want to be treated.

MyLittleMiracle · 15/03/2012 18:47

I meant as in not bitching at them and generally being really nasty and all the murders and stabbing and stealing! Not things like parties etc, just with a bit more consideration would be an improvement!

OldGreyWiffleTest

I try to live by Do As You Would Be Done by because I don't want to Be Done By as I Did. I still have the book and read it to little ones sometimes.

RuleBritannia · 15/03/2012 20:11

One good deed a day helps me get through it.

Birdsgottafly · 15/03/2012 20:17

you should never ask anyone to do something you wouldnt do

How would that work? I have always done jobs that others feel they could not do.

Likewise, i couldn't kill something but my dog wouldn't be happy as a vegan.

Some people are to damages to know how they would like to be treated and that is where it all breaks down, the human mind doesn't work that simple.

Nice thought, not very practical.

tethersend · 15/03/2012 20:19

I think you should tell everyone to fuck off. Probably.

Busyoldfool · 15/03/2012 20:21

I agree with you OP although also see what you mean Holy. I am always hurt when I do something nice for someone or go out of my way to treat them with respect and don't get the same in return. Luckily it doesn't often happen.

The world would be better if it were run by people who knew what they were doing. That requires life experiences that professional politicians who have never had a real job, were raised in and protected by wealth and have only gotten ahead because of who they know, don't have.

Its very easy to support war if you have never experienced it, to support destruction of social welfare protections if you have never needed them, to support the criminal if you have never been a victim of crime, to support carbon taxes if you have never had to struggle with fuel bills, to send billions of aid money to support dictators abroad when you don't have to live under them and have your family murdered by them etc...

TooMuchFuckingPerspective · 15/03/2012 20:30

The way I want to be treated isn't always what's best for me iykwim, so no, this sounds simple but wouldn't work.

MyLittleMiracle · 15/03/2012 21:03

The world would be better if run by nicer people who dont think war is the answer to everything!
