that's the truth in the OP - they hear the voice and write off the person using it straight away, don't bother making an effort at understanding.

Yabu! Some accents r difficult to understand. I was chatted up by a lad from Sunderland once. I'm sorry to say I just couldn't understand a word, he was gorgeous to I think it was partly because it was loud. I just couldn't figure it out believe me I tried some accents are just harder than others to understand.
