Parking illegally outside school

deviladvocate · 13/03/2012 23:03

Had a big row this afternoon with one of the regular offenders at school - on the zig zag lines, no possible excuse, she was aggressive and entitled.

Head has spoken to the regular offenders, signs have already been attempted, there are regular reminders in the newsletter. All ignored.

We need some constructive ideas for how to address this, help!

Call your local council parking nazis and they will put a camera car and patrol outside.

NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 13/03/2012 23:06

Community pc or pcso failing that contact your councils road safety team for advice.

Good luck!

jinsei · 13/03/2012 23:07

This happens at our school too. Some people just don't give a toss. :(

cece · 13/03/2012 23:09

Get the local police on the case.

Ours have regular blitz on the offenders - amazing how one or two fines being handed out improves things (for a while)

DD also went out with the police (she is Y6 school councillor) just before home time. They were putting info leaflets onto offenders cars (under the wipers). As one boy tried to attach a leaflet one man tried to drive off and nearly took the boy with him Shock Terrible! Angry. The man got into big trouble though with the PC and received an enormous fine. Smile

lisad123 · 13/03/2012 23:10

call the local traffic warden, the tickets soon stopped it at ourschool Grin.
That or massive traffic cones

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2012 23:11

Before the cutbacks we had regular CPOs outside

Now we just have the CCTV car every couple of weeks

It's an £80 fine but only a few people (who don't spot the car) get caught and then for the next few weeks it's a free-for-all again.

Selfish bastards

Fecklessdizzy · 13/03/2012 23:12

Private security - Clamp the bitches! Grin

Failing that, posts or big rocks ( only works in rural areas ) Our lower school had a problem with eejits parking on the verge and generally turning the whole lane into Death Race 2000 and this was the only thing that worked.

Lucy88 · 13/03/2012 23:14

Traffic wardens outside our school on a regular basis, but they stand out in bright yellow coats so they can be seen. I have suggested that they hide behind the bushes and wait to catch people.

I used to be the Chair of Governors and regularly used to go and knock on people windows and tell them to move - they are putting childrens lives at risk.

I noticed that in general - the drivers who parked illegally right outside our school are all slightly over-weight or just plain fat and would seriously benefit from a bit of walking. Would have loved to have said it to them, but think that would have been a step too far lol.

amistillsexy · 13/03/2012 23:18

Ours are all skinny bints in 4-by-4s! Tiny road outside school, and they still manage topark there! Even the irate bus driver doesn't shame them into shifting. Angry

Bet your judgy-pants are like cheese strings up your cheeks.

Debeez · 13/03/2012 23:22

Amistill I think you're at the same school as me. All on the zig zags, 4X4s, tight bend on a busy bus route. Seriously it's disgusting. Unfortunately it seems impossible to shame those with no shame.

Wolfiefan · 13/03/2012 23:24

Can you set up a park and walk scheme? Our local supermarket is happy for parents to park there and walk. Walking buses? (Kids in a crocodile). Walk to school week with rewards?
Do contact police!

Lucy88 · 13/03/2012 23:26

I am judgy, when fat, lazy lard arses park outside school, putting my child and others at risk. Lol at your comment - do you have a lard arse by any chance?

scurryfunge · 13/03/2012 23:27

Nice.

sweetkitty · 13/03/2012 23:28

Same here roll up at 2 minutes to 3 park on zig zags to get their 12 year old then REVERSE up the zig zags to get away whilst the kids are still coming out.

Meglet · 13/03/2012 23:29

I didn't believe the school parking scrum until I started seeing it with my own eyes.

Some of them are unbe-fucking-lievably awful. They have to cram themselves into the same space 20 metres outside the school. Grass verges, driveways, yellow lines - all fair game in their eyes. Mind you. one mum has 4 to deal with so I don't blame her for getting right to the gate!

I, however, walk to school or park right up the road (NO ONE parks as far as I do) and yell at the children to hurry up all the way down the path Grin. I am shouty, harrased mum who makes them use their legs a bit and can't be arsed to deal with weaving cars and small people dashing across the road.

And didn't that put you at risk? Our Head wouldn't allow us to do that.

I reported a Nightfreight lorry driver the other week for pulling his huge lorry across the zigzags and unloading just as Infant and Nursery were kicking out at 3pm.

He wouldn't move so various parents took photos of his lorry and sent them to the police and his company.

nothingoldcanstay · 13/03/2012 23:30

Are the zig zag actually necessary though?

We are a local primary on a busy single lane road. We have three bays one of which is disabled use right outside and everyone else has to park and on what is a single lane. We cope and children don't get squashed because you really have to look out for them.

Debeez · 13/03/2012 23:30

dons-judgy-pants

Yeah when someone elses lifestyle choice had no impact on my life I couldn't care less about the size of their arse. I'd prefer not to think about it. But when their laziness puts the safety of children at risk despite all requests and warnings about road safety I will happily throw buns in their direction.

My school has disabled bays open to parents who have mobility issues and those that have children where there are mobility issues or anything that might mean parking nearer to the school than everyone else is in their best interests. Everyone else is a lazy cunt.

amistillsexy · 13/03/2012 23:33

The ones that get me are those who can't even be arsed to get out and walk up to the playground with their DCs.

They let their Dcs out of the ridiculously large vehicle which they've in conveniently parked across the school entrance, then procede to sit there until the bell goes and the teachers come out, as if that's them supervising their DCs in the yard.

Debeez we're a rural school on a hill. Ring any bells?

amistillsexy · 13/03/2012 23:36

Oh no X posts. No accessible anything at our school Sad

Debeez · 13/03/2012 23:37

No amistill this seems to be a wide spread problem. We're actually lucky in that there are bays for those who really need them and quite a few safe bays outside of the school too. I've seen them park on the lines when there are bays available as to get as close to the school as possible.

Devil YADNBU. I think the immediate outpouring of "ME TOO" on here shows there are not many actions available to the school once you've exhausted appealing to common sense.

nothingoldcanstay · 13/03/2012 23:39

Everyone also has their"spot" like armchairs in a retirement home. Perhaps schools should allocate a space based on arrival time.

"Drop and go's" could have the "easy to get the heck away spaces" and playground lurkers could have the harder to get out off spaces available up to 8.45am. Late mums could then arrive into "drop and go" mums space.
