Parking illegally outside school

deviladvocate · 13/03/2012 23:03

Had a big row this afternoon with one of the regular offenders at school - on the zig zag lines, no possible excuse, she was aggressive and entitled.

Head has spoken to the regular offenders, signs have already been attempted, there are regular reminders in the newsletter. All ignored.

We need some constructive ideas for how to address this, help!

Call the council, explain the situation and it's very obvious hazards and they may well send a parking attendant down there during drop-off or pick up times.

I may well have done this myself after getting so sick and tired of this and after seeing one boy hit (very slow car so no physical damage) and one girl almost hit.

They are entitled cunts and I actually want to smack them round the chops when I see this.

Sam1973 · 16/03/2012 13:28

Its the same at my kids school, drives me nuts. one of these days a child is going to get hurt...

Debeez · 16/03/2012 13:56

Obviously anyone who has seen my earlier post will know how much illegal parking riles me up :o

Just wanted to know if anyone had encoutered this: I drive a hybrid car, when I'm pootling along it tends to click onto encountered the electric engine. Obviously in this situation I'm going slowly and watching where I'm going very carefully. But the amount of children who step out is terrifying. Little boy up school yesterday ran out for his ball. I was going so slow I had plenty of time to stop but I still had a panic. He hadn't heard me at all, Mother dearest wasn't watching at all unfortunately.

When we were little we had the old "Stop, look and listen." For cars like mine the listen aspect of road safety is outdated. I've been known to creep up on a friend when he was walking up the road, park two feet from him and beep. He was on path btw. Obviously I've covered this with my son as I'm aware of it, anyone know if schools are pointing out this new danger.

Good point debeez about the hybrid cars, I almost hauled my kids out into the road in front of one the other day, very quiet road and not a sound from the car - made me jump like hell when I caught sight of it!

Btw, police community support officers at school this morning. And one of the serial offenders stopped on the zig zags in front of them. How little attention would you have to be paying to not notice too big burly police officers standing in the road?! I have to confess to a certain sense of satisfaction at the sight of him being pulled over Grin

Don't get me started on this one!! Angry

It amazes me that parents think its OK to stop on the zig zags to just drop off! My DD school is a nightmare for parking, but were all in the same boat and the majority abide by the rules!

One of the dads told me there was nearly an accident this morning because two knobheads had parked on the zig zags Sad

PS Am I correct in thinking you still can't park on the zigs even with a blue disabled badge?

Parking on the "SCHOOL KEEP CLEAR" zig-zag lines outside the pre-school my daughter goes to is rife. After my husband failed to convince certain offenders to move (by talking to them), he setup a Facebook page today (22/02/2013) to shame them. As of today there are no photographs of the offenders but after this coming Monday morning I suspect it will feature a few!

Here is the Facebook page...

We are lucky and have parking at the school but it is never enough for the 1-15 mins of chaos.

A few years ago one Mum was reversing out of the Bursar's space which is not part of the normal parking. We are always told to reverse IN. She nearly knocked by son down. Big 4x4 but tiny woman (why is that!).

And the stupid mare was on the phone! She only saw me when I banged on her window. She claimed to be trying to get a doc appointment for her DD. I was so angry that I wrote a letter to the Head and he READ it out word for word to the boys during assembly saying how disappointed he was with their parents! DS knew it was me.....

You can't park where you will cause an obstruction so I reckon zigzags are included.

Tanith · 22/02/2013 19:24

You know the ones who really annoy me?
Those mums who have nothing better to do than to stand gossiping for ages, even after the bell has gone and the kids have gone in.

It's limited parking at two of the schools I drop off to - one causes real traffic problems for the area - and it would be so much easier if these mums would just do what the school says they should do: say goodbye to their kids and move their cars!
Some even block the pavement so we have to go into the road to get round them unless we snarl "Excuse me please!" in our best, p.a. grumpy morning voices.

montage · 22/02/2013 19:29

This thread is nearly a year old (although people are doubtlessly still parking on the zig-zag lines still)

chickensarmpit · 22/02/2013 19:32

A lady was run over outside my childrens school because of idiots not thinking! Luckily for her she wasn't killed. Could you imagine if it was a child this idiot had hit?
It doesn't matter how many times the school writes notes or the pcso's turn up asking offenders to move. They will continue to park like pricks. It's not their children who will be at risk, it's mine who actually walk to school who will. Selfish bitches!

RealAleandOpenFires · 22/02/2013 19:38

Embeded stop sticks might work.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 22/02/2013 19:44

When I confronted someone about parking on the yellow zig-zags outside the school entrance, I was threatened and sworn at.

RealAleandOpenFires · 22/02/2013 20:14

Rising bollards with a reset fee (lowering bollards) of a few 100 quid.

Tanith · 22/02/2013 20:41

That's OK, montage - I've been snarling at them for nearly 10 years Smile

MoonlightandRoses · 22/02/2013 21:10

Why not print off some pictures of the aftermath of a fatal accident outside a school and post that on their windscreen?

You'd obviously want to put it blank side out to prevent upsetting any pupils on their way in, but it might get the message over to at least some of the idiots who do this.

specialsubject · 22/02/2013 21:55

get the kids to throw buckets of muddy water over the windscreens.

or there's that tyre-bursting thing that the police use, put one of those on the zig zags.

dayshiftdoris · 22/02/2013 22:13

A local school took some yr 6 in florescent vests to the zigzags and every time a car pulled on to them - they held up signs to the driver which said 'Parking on ZigZags threatens my safety, please park elsewhere'

It worked Grin and it continued to work after the kids went in because the whole school was motivated and the kids nagged the parents not to park on zigzags / double park
