To ask other mums on MN not to use the F word?

raspberrypi · 13/03/2012 08:52

I am a newbie. I find that F word is peppered in a lot of the threads. I used to swear a lot but I have stopped completely because I realize it's common, and makes a woman sound undignified. Is it too much, ladies, to ask you not to use F-ing thsi and F-ing that? Can't we adults discuss things without resorting to sailor language? Thank you.

YABU HTH Biscuit

(FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK)

Fecklessdizzy · 13/03/2012 11:48

The thing is, my easily shocked old sweetheart, I actually AM hugely common and undignified and love a spot of profanity. So do feel free to jog on.

ButterPecanMuffin · 13/03/2012 11:52

The only person who is allowed to tell me not to swear, is my mom, and I'm pretty sure you're not her.

OhChristFENTON · 13/03/2012 11:55

I am very amused that the op's campaign to stamp out swearing lasted less than an hour (lightweight) and we're all still here enjoying a good old swear Grin

Fucking funny. Last one honest.

frownieface · 13/03/2012 11:57

Oh for fucks sake have a Biscuit, and get your self over to nethuns.

Pandemoniaa · 13/03/2012 11:57

Clearly the OP thinks we need elocution lessons...

To which I only have one thing to say - that's nice.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 13/03/2012 11:57

Well, OP, I am actually really well fucking educated and definitely a lady. Did you mean FUCK, when you said the F-Word? Sorry if it all offends your delicate sensibilities - in your position, I'd Fuck it off to NMs. You might find a naicer class of mummy there. HTH.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 13/03/2012 11:57

Haven't read the whole thread as I can't be arsed! What I don't like is that assuming from your OP you find it ok for a man to swear but not a woman? If so fuck off!! Why should we even want to be ladylike tis an old fashioned notion IMO
Fuck and many other "bad" words are used to vent frustration/show passion and like ALL words there is a place for them. I don't like my children to use them because as a child they don't yet have nearly enough stress/passion/frustration in their lives to justify it!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 13/03/2012 11:59

Am I too late? Has the OP fucked the fuck off? Can't help swearing when I'm told not to by a complete stranger on t'internet!

TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 13/03/2012 12:00

"to ask you not to use F-ing thsi and F-ing that?"

You are all missing the point. The OP hasn't asked us not to use the word fuck, she's asked us not to abbreviate it. Obviously, she fucking loves to fucking use it all the fucking time, and fucking hates to see it fucking corrupted by fucking fluffy-minded lower middle class types - the fuckers.

minesawhitewine · 13/03/2012 12:01

Oh this is so funny. This is my first ever post on here and I'm dying to swear but I just can't summon up the courage for fear of being swooped on by the mods - irrational I'm sure.

Somebody push me over the edge please!

TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 13/03/2012 12:03

Go on, you know you want too ...

IamtheZombie · 13/03/2012 12:05

Would being frightened by a zombie push you over the edge, minesawhitewine?

If so, here's a huge ZOMBIEBOOOOOO just for you.

Giyadas · 13/03/2012 12:05
TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 13/03/2012 12:05

to, not too ... I must be one of those illiterates MW was wittering on about. Of course, he's a fucker too.

only4tonight · 13/03/2012 12:06

Go on its a great fucking stress reliever

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/03/2012 12:06

Zombie that made me fucking jump!! :)

MrsBovary · 13/03/2012 12:10

I don't know. I find the idea of all the 'hunning' and 'lol-ing' at places like Nethuns far more common and undignified.

OliviaHappyBirthdayMumsnet · 13/03/2012 12:11

Hello Raspberrypi

Thanks for starting this thread - our talk guidelines explain this in a bit more detail
"It's not our policy to delete swearwords (we are all adults, after all) but we do draw the line at obscenity, racist and disablist language, and wording that is truly beyond the pale. So, if you're not sure which side of that line your swearword of choice may fall, it might be best not to use it."
And probably the most helpful of our guidelines We'd appreciate it if you'd use the same courtesy when posting messages on Talk as you would use when speaking to someone face-to-face.

Hope this helps
Thanks

....unless you're a complete arse in RL and have a lovely MN alter-ego in which case, as you were.

minesawhitewine · 13/03/2012 12:14

Oh god this is stupid, why can't I do it, I know I'll feel better once I have

Kayzr · 13/03/2012 12:16

Minesawhitewine go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on!!!!!

You can do it!!!

only4tonight · 13/03/2012 12:16

Oh Olivia you are a spoilsport. I would never swear like this face to face. Nor would I say most of the things I need to on here. One has to have a faceless vent sometimes.

CappyHunt · 13/03/2012 12:17

Just say fuck. It will feel great, then you'll be littering the whole place with fucks. It's marvellous. Honest.
