I am a first class idiot. I am one of those fools you read about who write jobs applications to School X when they're really applying to school Y.

So, I sent off application to school D on Friday. I was really pleased with the cover letter and thought I had a real shot at an interview.... Until a niggling feeling overcame me this morning and I checked my application again. Form - fine. Letter - fine..... except at the bottom of the Word document containing my lovely covering letter there is three quarters of an application letter for ANOTHER school I must have unwittingly pasted there. A TOTALLY different school. I couldn't bear to read the unwanted paragraphs in case I found something that directly contradicted something in application to school D. (Unlikely, but you never know.)

Anyway, I think my chances of being contacted in the next day or two for an interview are remote... I am gutted as I would have loved to work at this place :(

Can anyone cheer me up with application cockups?! As a nice complement to the "nightmare interview questions" thread...TIA

Yes, me! I recently applied for a job (at a school, funnily enough!) and when describing my most recent job I meant to include "General reception duties" but instead put "General reception dirties"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I had already submitted the application when I decided to re-read it. As soon as I read it I went hot and cold with panic!!! Unsurprisingly I didn't get an interview...and in fact didn't hear back at all! Buton the plus side I did get another job which I started a few months ago, because when I did the application for it I re-read it about 25 times before sending it so it was absolutely perfect!!!

I once sent off an application to law firm X, under cover of a letter detailing how perfectly I was suited to working at law firm...Y. I believe the rejection came by return of post Grin. 'Tis easily done, chin up and on with the next application.

I made the mistake of applying for a job at a bank. I got the bloody thing and I'm still there 8 years on, loving every god forsaken minute of it! God I wish I'd made a typo on that application form.....

Can you email them and come up with a very good explanatoin, computer went mad, two attachments moved, email sent (I can help with wording if you like). Whoever is sorting might just replace one with the other :o

Thanks for these responses - I love the "reception dirties!"
I think as the deadline for apps has now closed, an email is probably too late. I think I can probably write this one off. Luckily another wonderful one has come up - who knows - it could be life's way of saying it wasn't meant to be!

It's irritating though, as I'm usually the snotty one in shortlisting who's like, "if they can't even compose a decent letter...blah blah blah!"
I will keep quiet on that one from now on!
