To think that this crib is dangerous and shouldn't be on eBay?

This rocking crib is clearly a lovely, high quality item but it is so, so dangerous! Cots and cribs are not allowed to be made with posts like that due to cases of babies and toddlers catching their clothes of them and being hung to death. In the USA it is illegal to re-sell cots that don't meet current safety standards and I really think it should be the same case in the UK. AIBU?

Shock It has a lid!

It looks like a coffin! Shock

RandomMess · 10/03/2012 18:34

That is very very small, it's more like moses basket size - not a crawling baby size.

Mind you I did have very tall babies...

DaisySteiner · 10/03/2012 18:34

I don't think it does have a lid, I think it's just a photo from a different angle.

Maybe I being dim, but I don't really see how a baby or toddler would get caught on those posts, surely they're too high Confused

Wittsend13 · 10/03/2012 18:35

I don't see what the problem is. Many people sell and buy used cots. Not everyone can afford a new one....

Oh and I wouldn't think anyone with any *sense would have a child of climbing age in that.

*Wishful thinking

It looks too small for the size of baby that is capable of standing up by themselves in it. Also, they'll bump the heck out of their heads too, right, if they do try to stand up in it? Presuming they don't tip right on out, since it does rock. So I think only for quite ickle size babes?

BabyDubsEverywhere · 10/03/2012 18:37

I think its stunning but i do love anything olde me Blush

Also, its in place of a moses basket isnt it judging by the size, so baby would be completly immobile and wouldnt get caught in the posts anyway. fabulous as a toy crib, DD would love it!....i might be buying that, thanks for the link :)

ragged · 10/03/2012 18:40

I'm thinking a 6 month old could pull to standing, but they would never be tall enough to catch clothes on the posts, too. Much taller than average 8-10 months & they'd probably tip out of it when they did try to stand.

AKMD · 10/03/2012 18:42

Diagram and info here.

Hulababy · 10/03/2012 18:45

Is it against UK safety standards?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 10/03/2012 18:45

Erm...that's a crib like a moses basket. It's not designed to be used for older babies, just those under 3 months (or something).

AFuckingKnackeredWoman · 10/03/2012 18:48

I was expecting it to have a mattress made of knives.

Its just a crib for gods sake

RandomMess · 10/03/2012 18:48

That diagram etc relates to a COT, a crib is like a moses basket - you stop using them once they can roll over, often before that because the don't fit in them long enough!

DaisySteiner · 10/03/2012 18:48

Moses baskets should be banned in that case, in case babies stand up in them and fall out.

sassymcnassy · 10/03/2012 18:49

any child that was big enough to hang themselves on the posts would be far too big to be in it.
You're being ridiculous.

AKMD · 10/03/2012 18:52

UK/EU regulations are a lot tougher than those in the US and Canada, so I would imagine it would be against those too.

If I spent £500 on a crib, I would probably want to keep the baby in it for as long as it wasn't going to fall out of it.

Great for re-enactors too! I think it's lovely.... I think you might be being a tiny BU
goes off to tell Tudor-y friends about crib

RandomMess · 10/03/2012 18:54

It's a rocking crib surely once baby rolls over or sits up you can't use it anymore due to safety.

Looks lovely but entirely a waste of money IMHO

Meglet · 10/03/2012 18:54

Looks like an Adams Family crib!

It's awful.

I thought Canada was a lot more safety conscious than the Uk? Havent they banned children's walkers there too?

RandomMess · 10/03/2012 19:01

Now baby walkers really should be banned - they are lethal things!

GavisconJunkie · 10/03/2012 19:08

It's not a crib like in that safety link AKMO posted. The 'crib' in those diagrams are for up to toddlers. The coffin lovely gothic rocking crib on eBay is clearly only for tiny babies, like up to a few months old. It would be terribly unsafe to have an 8 month old in a Moses basket, especially a rocking one, so you wouldn't. Same for this.

May I politely suggest you don't bid on it AKMO?

AKMD · 10/03/2012 19:09

Thankfully I have already bought my second hand cot so have no need for it :o
