To think that this crib is dangerous and shouldn't be on eBay?

This rocking crib is clearly a lovely, high quality item but it is so, so dangerous! Cots and cribs are not allowed to be made with posts like that due to cases of babies and toddlers catching their clothes of them and being hung to death. In the USA it is illegal to re-sell cots that don't meet current safety standards and I really think it should be the same case in the UK. AIBU?

It's perfect for collectors of reborn babies.

Magneto · 10/03/2012 19:22

I'd have to buy a house to match that crib!

94% positive feedback - that alone would make me give an item a wide berth!

minceorotherwise · 10/03/2012 19:36

It's hideous! It looks like a horror crib. For that reason alone, I'm out

thekidsrule · 10/03/2012 19:40

i love it

thekidsrule · 10/03/2012 19:41

rosemarys baby,now that was baddddddddddddd

MrsFruitcake · 10/03/2012 19:44

That's nasty. Eugh, makes me shudder.

takingiteasy · 10/03/2012 19:50

It's a bit much for my liking but I wouldn't say it was any more dangerous than any other crib or basket out there.

Although in my eyes it would be unreasonable to put a moustasche-less baby in there.

SoozyWoozy · 10/03/2012 19:51

I think the item description 'hardly used thrn(??) soft toy storage' says it all really....

emsyj · 10/03/2012 19:52

That is the most terrifying crib I have ever seen. The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, all of it just flashing before my eyes. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock

ReallyTired · 10/03/2012 20:16

I can't see anything wrong with that crib. It might not be your taste, but I can't see why it would be dangerous. I think its far too nanny statish ban hand carved cribs on ebay or stop the sale of second hand cots.

It will be interesting to see what the final price is for the crib.

KatAndKit · 10/03/2012 20:26

I think it's hideous too. But that doesn't mean that the owners shouldn't be allowed to sell it. Someone could buy it as an antique and just put dolls in it or whatever. Heck, someone could even use it as a cat bed if they felt like it.

The onus is on parents of babies to make sure they buy their baby a bed that meets safety standards.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/03/2012 20:30

It's a crib. As others said, like a Moses basket. You take the baby out as soon as it tries to roll over. The safety guidelines you linked to are for a cot. Completely different things. YABU.
It's a beautiful thing, I'd love one.

landofsoapandglory · 10/03/2012 20:30

I was looking at it wondering what was wrong with it, so I am glad that other posters have said it is not dangerous.

I like it, TBH, much nicer than a Moses basket.

hiddenhome · 10/03/2012 20:34

It's lovely. I think you have to use your initiative with these things.

SamuelWestsMistress · 10/03/2012 20:38

Haha! When we moved into our house the previous owners left behind one of these for us because we'd just had a baby and their baby had never used it...

Samuel sell it on eBay...

ThePathanKhansWitch · 10/03/2012 20:45

It's like the crib from Rosemary's Baby, just needs the black netting!Shock

keepingupwiththejoneses · 10/03/2012 20:54

It is a tiny baby crib not a cot. I thing the OP is confusing a lot of people, in the uk we call it a crib in US and Canada they call it a basinet, in uk we call it a cot they call it a crib. I think it is lovely, needs a mattress and some nice bedding though.

thekidsrule · 10/03/2012 21:04

god the seller is gonna have a lot of people "watching this item" on her ebay, probably scratching her head wondering how she has hundreds watching it

lol

thisisyesterday · 10/03/2012 21:08

YABU

thankfully, unlike in America, over here we are capable of making our own decisions as to where we put our children to sleep (and a million other things too)

I can't imagine many tiny babies would climb up and hang themselves on small post on a crib quite frankly!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/03/2012 21:10

Samuel, that is STUNNING! Can I have it? Envy
I don't actually have a baby anymore, but I might! Grin

GiganticPotatoHead · 10/03/2012 21:11

You have to be really careful buying on ebay, there are loads of things on there for babies that don't meet current safety legislation. Have a look at this car seat I saw earlier www.ebay.co.uk/itm/childs-car-seat-Mothercare-/260970938746?pt=UK_Baby_CarSeats_EH&hash=item3cc314817a#ht_500wt_949.

Look at the second picture - how old is that?!! It finishes in 8 minutes but thankfully no one seems to be buying it.
