To want to burn all Moshi Monster cards!!!

My lovely daughter (7) has been sucked into the world of Moshi Monsters! Thankfully, just the trading cards.. Not the online gaming website where you sign up to a blooming direct debit!!!

Anyhoo...

Little heart comes back from school today with a very glum face, saying that someone had gone into her backpack and had stolen 3 of her favourite Moshi cards... (baby ones'???)

I stoooopidly bought 3 cards for her from ebay the other day (these baby cards) at 99p each, as she really really wanted them (and she's been lovely these past few weeks, very helpful etc) And these cards were the ones that were nicked!

I asked her if she told her teacher, and she said no because 'if the teacher hears about any Moshi Monster cards, she will take them away'.

So, dilemma.....

I am pretty pissed off that someone has been into her rucksack (that was hanging up on her peg in a public area) and has opened her Moshi Monster folder and has nicked 3 cards.

And I bloody hate the things... as I've seen my daughter at playtime/lunch when picking up my preschooler, and she's no longer running about and playing with her friends... She is just holding this blooming Moshi Monster folder and trading them with her friends.

Obviously, school don't like the things either, and maybe (need to investigate) - don't actually allow Moshi monster's in school!!!

But, they really have given her lots of fun and she's playing with different friends now, and seems really happy. (Bit of background here... we moved schools last July during her Year 1, and she has done a brilliant job in settling in and has a good circle of friends.)

Apart from burning them!!!! Which of course I won't do... Do I let her continue with this Moshi madness? Do I get her to leave her folder at home and let her take a few cards in? Or do we carry on the same? And, do I speak to the school, complaining about the theft... but potentially get a rollocking for allowing her to bring the Moshi stuff in????

Thanks Mumsnetters!
x

surely school know this happens, otherwise they are blind if they dont see a child with folder at lunchtime!!
We have moshi monsters obbessions in my house too Angry

Another moshi obsessive in my house too. However I would never let her take the cards in, apart from doubles, cos these things always get nicked. I don't think you can say anything to the school as she knew she shouldn't have taken them in - hard lesson to learn unfortunately

Can i please add to the pile with pokemon cards, match attax and any other darn cards given away for free by supermarkets. my son is obsessed by collecting and trading any sort of card and it drives me nuts. with match attax they even have a website set up by parents so that they can trade the kids cards because of all the doubles they get!

You don't have to sign up for a direct debit for the online site - most of it is free, and there are a few extra odds and ends that you can do in addition if you're a member. (I know - I'm a member, because DS1 bought me a card with 6 months' Moshi membership for my birthday!!! Blush Blush Blush)

I blogged about this very thing! trading cards

Our school does not allow the kids to take cards in for the simple reason 'they can't be doing with the hastle of things going missing and parents complaining'. I wouldn't allow my dd's to take them into school. Well i say that but the school are using moshi cards as a reward for dd2 who has Autism, so she does get given one every now and again but has to bring it home to go in her folder.

Floggingmolly · 09/03/2012 20:19

If it's banned in school, why is she taking it in? It's not like she can play openly with it, what's the point?

Vickles · 11/03/2012 10:05

Checked with school and they do allow Moshi Monsters cards and folders etc.... but only in playtimes. And they want no involvement in them. (I didn't tell them about the alleged theft (!) - I just asked their policy on taking these darn things in.

I talked further with my daughter, and she said that she saw someone from the other class taking it... and that she just let it happen. (!!!!) So, of course we had a conversation about standing up for herself etc.... and that no-one is allowed to go into her bag to take her things.

So, decision made... Like Redlac said, it's a hard lesson to learn, and we'll let it drop and put it down to experience.

We will let her take a small handful of cards in that she wants to trade in her pocket.. but no folder!
