To think it ridiculous that it costs so much to park in London?

The equivalent of $1083.59 a month! The most expensive in the world. Crazy IMO. When did London become a rich persons playground? It certainly isn't a place for normal working Britons to live anymore.

Despite it being the rip-off capital of Europe there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people wanting to live there, car or no car.

It's cheaper for dh and I as a couple to drive into London and pay the parking charges than it is for two of us to catch the train, and on a fast train we can get to central London in less than 30 minutes.

Parking charges are too high, but public transport prices are worse.

I love Sporcle!

But that's a non-resident's price. If you live in London, a resident's parking permit doesn't cost anything like that much.

I never bothered having a car when I lived in London. Why try to find parking when there was a bus stop outside my door and buses and trains ran all night. Too expensive for those though.

supply - or lack thereof - and demand I'm afraid

we live in london and have a car - our annual street parking permit is £120 but we tend to only drive in london at the weekend and park in areas where parking is free then

I live in London and I know plenty of normal working Britons live here Smile. Most of my friends don't have cars though - as MrsTerryPratchett says, there's simply no need when the public transport is so good. I disagree that public transport prices are high - I added up the cost of running/owning a car vs. the cost of my regular public transport and it was five times as much. Most car owners who complain about the cost of public transport don't fully consider all the running costs, they only compare the cost of parking/petrol which is a tiny fraction.

I only lived where I got free parking, a communal or a private drive.
I didn't bother taking the car during the day because it was so expensive and difficult to park, except at shopping centres and supermarkets.

You can also ride a bike, which is free to park. :-)

It is also a highly polluted city with virtual gridlock at rush hour in many areas.

Use the tube or bus!
