To give my skinny DD nutella on toast for breakfast but not allow her sister to have it, who is a bit of a chubster?

I'm usually fairly strict about junk food and don't allow them (both 11) to eat a load of crap, just now and then, but DT2 is painfully thin at the moment, off her food after a sickness bug and I just want to see her eat something substantial before going off to school. Her sister has a very sweet tooth and loves crap like chocolate spread, cakes, biscuits etc, and she is going through a rather chubby phase so I'm limiting it. She got the hump this morning after seeing her sister eating nutella on toast.

I obv don't make an issue of either the 'too chubby' or the 'too skinny' thing, other than this nutella drama this morning, or maybe that is making an ishoo of it.

God, this parenting lark changes like the wind, I think I've got it sussed and it all changes.

If the other twin has a sweet tooth I'd go for peanut butter to build up the spindly one - it doesn't look like an unfair treat, and it is actually used to build up malnourished children in famine regions, so you can explain that it's quasi-medicinal.

Another Biscuit anyone?

skybluepearl · 08/03/2012 12:30

I'd probably just give them both healthy food and maybe pack skinny one nuts to eat at break time. Treat them the same whilst together.

Boomerwang · 08/03/2012 12:32

My mother would never buy Nutella. She said it was just pappy shit which was no good for you and made you fat. Same as peanut butter. I quite like both of them, but I agree that there's no need for Nutella in anyone's diet. (gogo flame time!)

I would never give different meals to my kids. I'd make the skinny one eat the same as the fat one but make sure both are healthy. I do not believe that skinny people should be stuffed with fat just to get them quickly to a 'healthy' size - have you not seen the progs on telly about skinnies with a higher cholesterol level than some fatties?

A bit from each food group for both kids, and since they ARE kids, they will fill out or drop puppy fat accordingly as long as they are both active and eating sensibly.

Come and get me!

Toast with peanut butter (as DilysPrice suggests) and banana on toast is nutritional, calorie packed and looks like less of a treat. In fact, I'd give it to both of them, probably just spreading the peanut butter slightly thinner on the chubbier twin's portion.

Aww that seems so mean Sad

I am "the chubster" in our family. It was never said, but little hints like the one you've just given your daughters this morning were given. I struggle with eating disorders, and am doing my level best to find a balance with food. I think I'll always have an unhealthy relationship with it.
I have 2DC, one skinny, and one bigger. They have the same to eat, and will continue to do so. A balanced diet works for everyone.

GwenGotLost · 08/03/2012 13:00

Have you talked to "the chubbster" about the weight issue at all? If you haven't explained your reasons at all then Yes YWBU.
I agree with boomer; feed them both the same and make sure they are active; it'll level out soon enough; and so what if one is a little bigger than the other; they don't always have to be the same.

puds11 · 08/03/2012 13:04

just a thought, my family used to refer to me as 'fatty' and 'big bum'. I was anorexia from the age of 13 to 20 (when i got pregnant) so maybe bear that in mind for your 'chubster' daughter

seeker · 08/03/2012 13:09

She's eithr within the normal weight range or she's a bit if a chubster (ick). One or the other.
