To think this woman at work might be a bit unstable?

Sorry name-changed as don't want to be outed but basically I'm a bit concerned about a woman at work. She's a domestic surrounded by professionals, the only unqualified member of staff on the department. For a number of weeks odd things have been happening in the staff room, for instance a box of biscuits was brought in for everyone to share and the entire box got smashed up. Someone swore they saw this woman sneaking out but didn't want to get her into trouble. Stuff has also been going missing and I once walked into the staff room to see her going through someones bag. When I walked in she jumped up and said she was looking for milk and left the staff room pretty quickly, she wasn't even making a drink so why would she be looking for milk?
And today I walked into a clinic prep office to see her holding blood bottles. She put them down when I walked in but said she always goes in there to hold them as soon as they've been taken as she loves the feel of warm blood!!
I do not want to get her into trouble but I'm actually a bit concerned that all is not right with her. AIBU to mention it to someone and risk her getting the sack or should I just mind my own business?

YANBU, she sounds bonkers.

SpectacularChoice · 07/03/2012 20:58

Mention it, she might need to see someone with regards her mental health.

ImperialBlether · 07/03/2012 20:59

I don't understand. Things have been going missing and you saw her rooting through someone's bag and you accepted she was looking for milk? Did you not say something to your boss? Or to the woman whose bag was being rifled?

my2centsis · 07/03/2012 21:00

She likes to touch warm blood????!!

Ummm alarm bells!

That's wierd

Say something to your boss

ImperialBlether · 07/03/2012 21:00

And the warm blood thing is disgusting - completely different to the milk bottle in a handbag scenario.

Bobyan · 07/03/2012 21:00

What if she's contaminating medical supplies? I'm surprised you feel the need to ask what you should do, you have to protect your patients...

ginmakesitallok · 07/03/2012 21:02

Why did you feel the need to say she was the only unqualified one??

DyingRoses · 07/03/2012 21:02

I didn't know who's bag it was and didn't want to start a bitch-fest about the woman (as would easily happen in our place!) as she's usually such a lovely woman. Plus it's usually stupid stuff that goes missing like a piece of fruit or a yogurt. Whoever is doing it has actually bypassed an iphone and a purse full of money to get to a piece of fruit before now.

DyingRoses · 07/03/2012 21:03

She can't contaminate medical supplies as she's not authorised to be anywhere near it (hence why I said she's unqualified). She can pick the bloods up but they're sealed.

She's a vampire!

RuleBritannia · 07/03/2012 21:06

A 'bottle' of blood? I thought blood was always in plastic packs now.

DyingRoses · 07/03/2012 21:07

No they're taken in little test bottles. (pink tops, blue tops, gold tops etc - depending on what they're being tested for).

would it be possible for you to have a word with her in private and say you are worried about her?

If it is not possible or appropriate to do this then you do need to talk about it with someone

Bobyan · 07/03/2012 21:11

Is she authorised to rummage through other people's bags?

TheLightPassenger · 07/03/2012 21:11

[shocked] that you need to ask tbh. she's interfering with peoples' belongings and samples, of course you should mention it rather than mind your own business.

villagebikermum · 07/03/2012 22:37

Yes, you should raise your concerns with your senior. During the enquiry into Beverly Allot (not sure about the spelling), her colleagues reported her behaviour was "a bit strange." Could you forgive yourself if anything bad happened and you hadn't blown the whistle?

FunnysInTheGarden · 07/03/2012 22:40

george I thought Vampire too Grin

GrahamTribe · 07/03/2012 22:50

Does this weird woman take an interest in piano wigs too? Or does she consider them a waste of time, DyingRose?

AwkwardMary · 07/03/2012 23:06

And you're a medical proffesisonal are you? But you still need to check on here whether or not to report what you saw re the blood and the bag?

Hmm
BigGirlInASmallWorld · 07/03/2012 23:26

Should she be handling blood samples? That is a security risk.

Report her! It's your duty.

Please do it soon.

applecrumbleandcream · 07/03/2012 23:47

Definitely should report to your Manager that you found her going through someone's bag, that is very suspicious behaviour and also if it had been me I think I would have questioned her a bit more after she said 'looking for milk'. Nobody normal would be looking through someone else's bag.

YuleingFanjo · 07/03/2012 23:50

could she be a biscuit hating vampire?
