To think that the Ocado website is crap?

I thought I'd give it a go today and do my online shop with Ocado.

Well, I've flounced back over to Sainsbury's because the Ocado website is SHIT. Not logical or anything. I don't know how anyone finds anything on there. Cup-a-Soups are next to beans are next to Cif bog cleaner.

Poor show, Ocado. Poor show.

Is it coming today then? Exciting! They will bring the shopping right into your kitchen for you.

It is coming today between 5 and 6! Exciting innit?

I'd never use Tesco They're atrocious. Feels like a budget supermarket, charges premium. They can kiss my grits.

I use Asda for basics and Ocado for the things Asda doesn't stock.

I've used Sainsbury's in the past (until they totally messed up, about 8 years ago, then offered truly crap 'misunderstand, deny everything and blame the customer' service, I told them they either resolve the issue properly or I'd never shop with them again, they failed to resolve it, then panicked and sent vouchers, apart from spending those I haven't shopped with them since).

Anyway, I've always set up my list by searching items, then I return to and amend the same list, so no browsing-related problems. Though, it does help occasionally, usually by visiting a shop, to realise what alternatives there are.

Asda's staff are consistently pleasant and friendly, unlike Sainsbury's grumpy sods (oh no I can't step onto your carpet because you might blame us if it gets dirty). Ocado's are lovely too and will carry everything into the kitchen. Ocado are better at having everything is stock (not surprising as it's a warehouse not one shop). Where both stock the same item, Ocado can be shockingly expensive - even items on offer can cost more than the same at Asda and, Asda do their 10% less price guarantee, which pays up almost every time.

Basically I think Asda do amazingly well, considering their low cost approach, somehow their staff are more motivated and friendly than they could be, while Ocado have nicer stuff and are as lovely as you'd expect, given what you're paying.

Hallelujah she sees the Ocado light!!!! Wink

They are fab - site easy to use, app even easier, rarely any substitutions so what you order is what you get. Any problems with squashed items etc report it online and you get a no quibble refund. Also the Waitrose essential items are excellent quality and value.

Enjoy :)

I didn't order the salmon chilli stuff but I have bought the bag of chicken breasts. Shopping list please TSC Wink

I did it by searching stuff in the end. Took me about 4 years because I don't ever use a list, maybe I need to start. It is VERY expensive, but you know, they do nice things.

Oh yes, free wine - Ocado sent a bottle of red for my anniversary with them (better than some BFs!), one I'd ordered a few times and my suspicions are confirmed by this thread, that had I been buying champers, I'd have got that!

Asda gave me free gin and beer. That wasn't deliberate though (unless on the part of a mischevious departing staff member in the orders dept). Cue interesting moral dilemma but that's another story.

BupcakesandCunting · 06/03/2012 11:17

The basic stuff is average priced, I found the chicken/mince/Quorn shite I have to buy for DH/milk/eggs all the same as I pay in Sainsbury's. It was stuff like fruit juice/fresh fruit that I found a wee bit pricey. Cheapest punnet of strawberries was £3.69! But it was a BOGOF and DS eats them until they're coming out of his ears so I suppose that's not too bad!

What was the moral dilemma, Lottie? Whether to mix the gin and beer or drink them on separate days? Wink

I'd challenge anyone who thinks Ocado are not expensive to do a shop at Asda and use their price guarantee. It shows a comparison for Waitrose, Sains, Tesco and Morrison's and the differences can be huge. Really, same branded item, totally different price. I know Ocado isn't just Waitrose but is similar.

OTOH Ocado stocks stuff that others don't and some of their 'basic' things are better quality, so there's a value vs price consideration.

lottiegb · 06/03/2012 11:27

...and whether to keep ordering gin hopefully Smile

Ocado does regular 25% (maybe even 33%) off wine offers. I love how each customer is limited to about 100 bottles or something, such restraint.

TBF, I've ordered a load of the Waitrose Essentials stuff. I've had them before and they are usually on a par with the better ranges from Sainsbury's. Their parmesan is really nice, so are the brekfast cereals/crumpets/milk.

OP posts:
lottiegb · 06/03/2012 11:47

But I don't want sausages! Products like some of the Dorset Cereals though, same thing totally different prices. Last Asda shop, about £150, difference with Waitrose (for the items they compare only) over £19.

Agreed re value vs price caveat. The sad truth is that, for some things, you'd have to check between shops, remember which is cheaper / better value for what (pretty much what I've done between the two) and then take account of offers (getting a bit too hard), so basically, have a lot more time than money.

lottiegb · 06/03/2012 11:51

Tesco show up as same price as Sainsbury's, so more than Asda and Morrisons. I think Tesco somehow give the impression of being cheaper than they are.

TeWihara · 06/03/2012 12:03

I almost never buy branded food though. At my last shop the only branded products I bought was a big box of weetabix and some kitkats.

I really like essentials quality but it's not as cheap as value/basics/smart price, so depends on what the budget is that week really.
