It is not a badge of honour to be mentioned in favourite mumsnetter threads

There are periodically threads inviting people to name their favourite mums netters. This is invariably followed by a thread for nobdies (nobodys) who never get mentioned on these threads.

But I really don't think it is a good thing to be mentioned in these threads. All it means is that you spend far too much time on here. And this is not jealousy - I ahve for the first time been mentioned on the latest thread - and I know it is because I am spending far too much time here.

IMO to be mentioned you have to:

  1. Spend a LOT of time here. I used to think I did, but relatively I didn't - I do now.
  2. Post a LOT. One or two witty or insightful posts a day just doesn't cut it. Think a minimum of 20 posts a day and preferably in AIBU or chat.
  3. Not piss of TOO many people.

And thats it! It really isn't a badge of honour. You may regularly post witty or insightful posts, but unless you are posting lots and lots, you won't get noticed enough in what after all is avery large amount of mums netters.

3 threads now

I think people car far too much to be honest

It's just cyber ink in chat land

Nowt to knot anyone's knickers

WorraLiberty · 05/03/2012 12:46

And they care far to much too Blush

FrillyMilly · 05/03/2012 12:51

The only badge of honour worth getting is being mentioned in a lazy article on the daily fail or having your thread mentioned by Mathew Wright.

MardyBra · 05/03/2012 12:52

YANBU Lesley. I have started similar threads to this in the past.

Mathematically there are so many of us, it's inevitable that many many MNers are going to missed out. Of course, we all have posters we get along with best and would spring to mind immediately. But I would say that there are dozens of people I recognise and enjoy chatting to, and would hate to miss any of those out. So therefore I prefer not to name.

MardyBra · 05/03/2012 12:56

Blush. I think I probably fit your criteria of spending too much time here posting on Aibu and Chat though! Can't claim much insight most of the time. Grin

DodieSmith · 05/03/2012 13:01

20 per day? Is that how much the 'recognisable people' post? I was wondering that. Whenever I feel invisible on here I remember that I spend more time on here when I'm bored in RL and think it's probably a blessing.

Synyster · 05/03/2012 13:02

what makes me lol is that I started that thread after a few drinks, it was a joke thread,

Proudnscary · 05/03/2012 13:04

Three threads on this fecking subject now then?

If someone new came on Mumsnet today they'd think it was full of children/narcissists/bored dullards.

WorraLiberty · 05/03/2012 13:06

A likely story Synyster

I put it to you that you've been up all night with your laptop...desperately refreshing the page while napping like a Meerkat in between, just waiting for a mention Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2012 13:06

Yep. I only post a couple of comments a day as quite busy but have been on here years and am not 'recognisable' really.

PurpleRomanesco · 05/03/2012 13:07

It isn't?

ExitPursuedByaBear · 05/03/2012 13:09

I recognise you Laurie Wink

lesley33 · 05/03/2012 13:09

dodiesmith - As a minimum - more most days.

mardybra - I only just recognise your name unlike some of the really prolific posters - so no imo you are not quite there yet.

proudnscary - I know what you mean. I guess I just felt sorry for those people who felt a bit sad at never getting a mention.

Surely it's more of an indication that one spends too much time here when one reads a "Favorite Mumsnetter" thread in case one's name is mentioned Hmm

porcamiseria · 05/03/2012 13:19

I agree Lesley

now this is a bit rich coming from me, but I do look at some people and think,. SWET FUCKING JESUS GET OFF THE PC

Pornyissue · 05/03/2012 13:23

I agree op.

It just means you are addicted to mn.

I have felt myself getting that way and then force myself not to go on as it's too easy to get drawn in

In all seriousness I think mn can be really, really addictive as bad as a gamer getting addicted. I know people will laugh but I think it is.

lesley33 · 05/03/2012 13:56

porny - I agree I think it can be very addictive. And porca I think that about myself sometimes Blush

"mardybra - I only just recognise your name unlike some of the really prolific posters - so no imo you are not quite there yet."

Yay! I'm a lightweight.

Does this mean I can justify spending more time on here?

lesley33 · 05/03/2012 14:32

Hmm Tempted to say yes. But I'm not sure it is a good thing to encourage actually

Pornyissue · 05/03/2012 14:35

Surely your going to mainly recognise posters who go on the same type of threads as you.
