It is not a badge of honour to be mentioned in favourite mumsnetter threads

There are periodically threads inviting people to name their favourite mums netters. This is invariably followed by a thread for nobdies (nobodys) who never get mentioned on these threads.

But I really don't think it is a good thing to be mentioned in these threads. All it means is that you spend far too much time on here. And this is not jealousy - I ahve for the first time been mentioned on the latest thread - and I know it is because I am spending far too much time here.

IMO to be mentioned you have to:

  1. Spend a LOT of time here. I used to think I did, but relatively I didn't - I do now.
  2. Post a LOT. One or two witty or insightful posts a day just doesn't cut it. Think a minimum of 20 posts a day and preferably in AIBU or chat.
  3. Not piss of TOO many people.

And thats it! It really isn't a badge of honour. You may regularly post witty or insightful posts, but unless you are posting lots and lots, you won't get noticed enough in what after all is avery large amount of mums netters.

I have been on mn for seven years and I have never been mentioned on one of those threads.

RobinSparkles · 05/03/2012 14:40

Has there been a favourite MNer thread recently? I haven't seen one for ages.

lesley33 · 05/03/2012 14:41

To be fair, I go through phases. Sometimes very prolific, sometimes less so. I've been quite busy in RL recently and have been trying to limit my time on here.

timefourchange · 05/03/2012 14:55

Serial name changers FTW!

I think there is a fourth category, OP - posters who are kind and helpful. I think that's worth something, a kind word or decent advice can go a long way even on the internet.

lesley33 · 05/03/2012 15:11

You are right. Lots of us post here when we are struggling or feeling stressed with kids and rl and it can really make a difference.

thescarlettpimpernel · 05/03/2012 15:14

Ironically I post most on MN when I am busy Confused

My four - I said FOUR!!! - occupations are all totally PC based, which means if I have loads on I am tied to the desk. If I'm less busy I'm out um, um, having fabulous times with my fabulous friends

porcamiseria · 05/03/2012 15:19

thats PSAMM true, I like MN for 3 things

having a massive fight with someone

and being kind to people, who genuinely appreciate it

and for getting honest feedback

off now, really....

RobinSparkles · 05/03/2012 16:02

"yes Robin there was. Were you not on it then [look of pity]"

No.

MardyBra · 05/03/2012 16:08

"All it means is that you spend far too much time on here."

There are lots of reasons people spend time on here, and it's not necessarily negative. Some come on because they are lonely, bored or housebound. Some are feeding small babies - I wish MN had been around when mine were little - all those hours watching crap repeats, and, if really unlucky, the test card in the middle of the night. Some come on for specialist advice or support. Some come on for the craic and the humour. And so on. There's nothing wrong with any of that.

tralalala · 05/03/2012 17:02

OP you're right some people are wasting their lives Sad. I used to spend ages on here glad I cut it back.

ChaoticAngel · 05/03/2012 17:20

I didn't read the latest favourite mumsnetter thread. I did post on the other one, not because I'm sad about not been mentioned, because I thought it was a bit of fun.

I recognise quite a few names on this thread...including MardyBra Wink
