Well, am I?

That counts as making it in my book Iggly! I literally flollop out of bed, and zombie shuffle to bathroom and that's it. Bed doesn't get a second look.

By "make" are we talking about something more than pulling the corner of the quilt, so it looks reasonably straight ?
I've learned about soooooo many housework-y tasks on MN over the years that people seem to do, that I@ve managed without doing in all the years I've been a house owner, I just thought I'd check this isn't some complicated and unnecessary practice some wierd types are in to Wink

Asinine · 02/03/2012 17:11

I didnt make my bed or even think about making beds as a concept until I hit 40. Now I am obsessional about it has to be all smoothed out.

I blame it on the Mirena coil, along with all my other middle ages foibles....

PBandJSandwiches · 02/03/2012 17:14

At the hotel I work in is changed after every guest. However you are only allowed one plastic cup for the length of your stay! (no excuses accepted. One is your limit. Better not to ask!)

Pascha · 02/03/2012 17:17

How depressing is it though? To come back to an unmade bed at the end of the day.

PBandJSandwiches · 02/03/2012 17:17

We are allowed six minutes per room for a service, fifteen for a turn over. Two people per room. Bathrooms, dusting, straightening, vacuum, change sheets, restock. Etc.

PBandJSandwiches · 02/03/2012 17:19

Next week we have a day where we will have to do around 46 in between school runs.

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 17:19

6 minutes? Shock That sounds harsh PB.

blushingcrow · 02/03/2012 17:19

I only have to pull the duvet over me , so its not that depressing really

Clearlymisunderstood · 02/03/2012 17:20

I remember my biology teacher telling me the bed needs to breathe in the day (something about the creatures that live in your mattress multiplying more when it's made) anyway that's a pod enough reason for me!

valiumredhead · 02/03/2012 17:21

I always make the beds because I like getting into a made one at night.

Busybusybust · 02/03/2012 17:35

This thread has quite shocked me! I thought everyone (except students and teenagers) made their beds every day?

I certainly do - and I'm a paid up member of the household sluts club.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/03/2012 17:44

No, just turn the duvet back and leave it like that. No one sees it anyway and it doesn't feel the slightest bit different if I pull the duvet back up when I get into the bed as opposed to several hours earlier (no top sheets here and use fitted bottom ones which generally stay put).

BrianTheBrainSurgeon · 02/03/2012 17:45

I'm with Iggly

... but not very proud of it Blush- I know bed sheets really should be aired every day. My grandma used to do this, I was fascinated watching her shake the sheets and duvets in front of the open window every morning. It smelled very nice.

chandellina · 02/03/2012 17:46

It takes, what, 10 seconds at most to pick up the duvet and shake it back over the bed? Another 10 to fluff the pillows back up. It's the first thing I do.

Pascha · 02/03/2012 17:48

Any Chalet School fans on this thread who fancy dealing with bedding the way they all had to?

ginmakesitallok · 02/03/2012 17:49

We make ours just before we get into it. DMIL dresses hers every morning - with pillow and fancy throws and 2 teddies - looks like something out of home and garden. I have NEVER seen her bed unmade

Where I am all the 'good housewives' hang their duvets out of the bedroom windows for several hours a day, whenever the weather permits. Seems like a grotty thing to do AFAIK, but there you go.

HettyKett · 02/03/2012 17:55

AFAIK meaning as far as I'm concerned Hmm Oh well.

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 18:00

I sometimes put the duvet over the washing line all day to air. Especially the Dcs (boy children Grin)

HettyKett · 02/03/2012 18:02

Oh yes, I do that once in a while too.

But all the grot from the outside windowsill and the exterior walls on my duvet does not appeal!

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 18:07

Nicely aired but covered in bird poo and moss Hetty. Grin

jifnotcif · 02/03/2012 18:08

YABU.

My first job after breakfast is making DCs beds and mine.

Always plump the pillow.
Always allow time for airing.
Always shake the duvet.

Bunch of slovens the lot of you.

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 18:11

Get your reasons ready for why you do the DCs beds jif. There will be uproar they are not making their own beds. Grin
