Well, am I?

Oh god, really Sparkling? Really?

HettyKett · 02/03/2012 16:38

Yes, I throw the covers back so the beds can air and make them later. Absolutely no dressing though.

Resolutely no dressing here. WHY go to the effort of pretty scatter cushions, throws, teddies, rose petals and the like to tHen have to remove the lot before you can lay down? Maybe someone can enlighten me?

WorraLiberty · 02/03/2012 16:38

No YANBU. Making beds is a waste of time, like ironing

Ask Blushingcrow to lay flat on your clothes

Job done! Grin

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 16:39

Oh most probably definitely Cailin. Wink

HettyKett · 02/03/2012 16:39

Bedbugs and dust mites are not the same thing. Airing will do nothing against bedbugs but stops dust mites thriving.

WorraLiberty · 02/03/2012 16:40

I think 'dressing' the bed is an old fashioned term for 'making' the bed.

My Mum always said she was 'dressing' the bed when infact she meant making it (or maybe an Irish thing?)

Anyway, nowadays dressing it means with cushions and shit...but it didn't used to mean that.

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 16:41

In that case if I ever vanish into thin air (suppose it would have to be fat air, given my girth) I will be the subject of salacious gossip, and might even attract my own judgey-pants mumsnet thread!

Blush I make mine about an hour before I go to bed. I cannot stand getting into an unmade bed, but in the mornings am too sleepy still to care less enough to make it then.

hocuspontas · 02/03/2012 16:41

For whose benefit is the dressing? And does the stuff just lay on the floor until the bed is made again? Don't you trip over it when you get up?

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 16:41

Yeah, worra, by dressing the bed I mean putting clean sheets on. "Making" the bed involves putting the covers straight, and making look and neat n' shit.

Pascha · 02/03/2012 16:41

I can't leave the house in the morning without the bed being made Shock You bunch of scuzzers!

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 16:42

Apparently in some hotels instead of changing the sheets they 'pull and pluck' which involves pulling the bottom sheet tight and plucking any pubes off it. All ready for the next guest. Shock.

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 16:43

I used to be a chambermaid in a basic but nice hotel and we did change the sheets but we never ever changed the bedspread. Ever.

OP posts:
WhereMyMilk · 02/03/2012 16:47

That is minging CaillinShock

Will never leave my home again!

cakewench · 02/03/2012 16:47

Yes, the bedspread in a hotel room should be immediately removed from the bed and banished to the closet. Or at least, that's what I do. Grin (makes things difficult if it's the only blanket for the bed, in that case I leave it on but only pulled up about halfway)

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 16:50

Were you like Cailin? Grin

tethersend · 02/03/2012 16:51

I can't imagine getting into bed ever being anything other than a joy-filled experience. Sleep and/or sex.

I can't imagine that being spoilt by a crumpled sheet Grin

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 16:55

Yup, sparkling, that was me, except my uniform wasn't quite that snazzy.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 16:57

Grin. Cailin

Bet it was bloody hard work. Changing beds is like a workout.

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 16:58

It was the most tiring job imaginable. We had to clean 20 rooms in 8 hours which sounds easy until you realise you have to dust every single surface, scrub the bathroom, hoover the whole place, tidy any mess and change the bed. I was very fit!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2012 16:59

I bet you saw some sights too......

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 02/03/2012 17:01

I make mine in winter cos its warmer to get into but not in summer when I just straighten bottom sheet and fold duvet back.

YCNBU whichever you do because things like this don't really matter!

CailinDana · 02/03/2012 17:02

The main sight I saw was disgustingly filthy rooms from supposedly respectable people. Strangely women in their 30s were the worst culprits by far - one pair of "ladies" from Dublin who took every opportunity to sneer at me left their room in such an incredibly horrible condition that I had to ask the manager to get someone in to help me. Stag nights usually resulted in an almost pristine room - the lads barely saw the inside of the place Grin

OP posts:
Iggly · 02/03/2012 17:04

I don't make it but do

Iggly · 02/03/2012 17:04

I don't make it but do plump the pillows, smooth the sheets and fold back the duvet so it airs.
