Or am I just too old

OP posts:
ScarletAvenger · 01/03/2012 18:00

Ah yes, the typical troll profile.

Male

Young-ish

Shite

Except LineRunner I'd call you on that. There have been frequent times on here, that I have felt like trolling. I wouldn't be surprised if MN has a significant number of married older female trollers - way above the norm. I've never felt it on any other forum. Just this one. Have I? Nope as tempting as it is at times.

And it seemed a shame the threads got deleted so the advice was lost as a communal resource

This is why I always try and take posts seriously. As you don't know who is reading and identifying with the thread even if it is an enormous amount of steaming doggy do.

There are a lot of people who do come on here looking for support or to 'feel normal'. Sometimes 'normal' happens to be crazy!

The posters who bother me most on MN are not the trolls. They are the ones who give advice by obsessively project their situations onto others even when it clearly isn't remotely like the OP or lack any sensitivity whatsoever on certain serious topics/sections (eg relationships, bereavement, childbirth).

There is a lot of damaging stuff that gets put on here. Hence my feeling like I want to troll these people. I don't suspect I am alone either (probably just the only one foolish enough to admit to feeling like this).

There is a mix of "inane" and "really fucking heavy stuff" here. There is a different to me. I try and act accordingly. (Probably failing once in a while) But calling troll where it could fall under the "really fucking heavy stuff" is a dangerous game in my book that I don't want to play. Hence I avoid completely the thread, or focus on comments made by other posters in the thread, or try and guide the conversation to a 'safer' more general related area to the original post though not directly addressing it. And I don't have any time for derailing as its as bad as the troll hunting tbh. Just certain people get around the troll hunting rules by doing it. Doesn't make it any less bad for the OP if they ARE real.

And so fucking what if it IS a journo looking for a none story or a hysteria story. If there are points of view that are expressed they are real POV. They show what people are concerned about. There's already enough completely made up stuff out there in the media. It least if they use MN they have some sort of reality to base it on, rather than just their own mind and experiences.

Chocolate Philly really DOES taste like beef.

That's true. Absolutely no word of a lie.

There's a thread I've been on but not posted for a few days because I'm just do unsure about it and I feel awful for it but the whole point of my namechange was to not get sucked into to emotional stuff and keep it light. There just isn't any light stuff at the moment.

Bohica · 01/03/2012 18:05

Lots of it going on at the minute.

LineRunner · 01/03/2012 18:08

Scarlet, yes I get your points.

EdithWeston · 01/03/2012 18:17

Normally people blame school holidays or phase of the moon.

Don't think either of those apply at the moment.

I might go strange for no reason whatsoever this evening. But not until I've thought of a good category of random facts.

LineRunner · 01/03/2012 18:24

I did independently know the capital of Paraguay.

OracleInaCoracle · 01/03/2012 18:26

Betty, welcome back Grin!

I think it depends on whether we have had a recent spate of trolls. at the moment it is shocking with the same few coming back time, and time again.

nkf · 01/03/2012 18:29

I think there is more nonsense than before. Fins it annoying tbh. I also find it annoying to be told people must show compassion in case it's true.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/03/2012 18:37

"the ones who give advice by obsessively project their situations onto others even when it clearly isn't remotely like the OP"

That would be me, probably. Blush

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 01/03/2012 18:51

Well I have had enough.
Thats for darn fucking sure.

OriginalJamie · 01/03/2012 18:52

AAAAAARGH!!!!!

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2012 19:00

lissie , why does your link say I need to login to FB to download the PDF but if I independently search FB I can't find it on there?

Zombie is also tired of pressing the Report button...

OracleInaCoracle · 01/03/2012 19:03

oh, does it? how bizarre! try this

OracleInaCoracle · 01/03/2012 19:05

arrrrgh, thats not worked either! try this

or google The Emma Bowyer Story, and click on the docstoc link

noddyholder · 01/03/2012 19:06

Me too It never used to be like this. So many new poster OPs with horrendous stories that even if true need professional intervention rather than old school advice! A lot of hard line right wing posts too and I don't mean a bit of tory toff more a sinister nastiness

Pagwatch · 01/03/2012 19:12

Scarlet

I found your post interesting but I am a bit confuddled by your saying that you want to troll people. How would that work as a sort of retort? What do you mean ? I am probably being thick.

runningwilde · 01/03/2012 19:23

I was thinking that - a lot if threads seem like bullshit. It's such a shame as it really takes away from real problems

If I don't use FB to access docstoc and register with one of my "use this account because what you're registering for will probably generate spam" email addresses, it tells me I have to upgrade my membership to docstoc Premium and pay for the privilege. Zombie will just google and see what else is out there. Thanks, anyway, lissie .

OracleInaCoracle · 01/03/2012 19:28

everlong, yep, yep, yep

zombie, how bizarre. are you just reading the window in the link?

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2012 19:39

On the stocdoc page that your link goes to, when I click on download document it takes me to a registration popup. I can either register by logging into FB (which I don't particularly want to do especially as I'm already logged in) or by email. I entered a valid email and it went straight to this page:

www.docstoc.com/pass?doc_id=78246689

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2012 19:41

Oh, Zombie Poo!

When I tried earlier I'm sure it wouldn't let me read it online...

Now it will.

Ignore Zombie.

coconutty, I genuinely dont know. some are ill, others just sick.

lesley33 · 01/03/2012 19:47

I am a bit shocked that people pm each other about trolls and to slag each other off. I didn't know thsi went on at all - never been part of it.
