AIBU?

To be shocked at seeing a dog in a pram on the bus.

I was on the bus today with my ten month old DS. Another lady got on with a pram with a dog in it. I was a bit shocked and sniggered a bit to myself. I even looked again just to check it was a dog- it was a small dog. No idea what breed. BUT THEN we got to a stop and you could tell that the bus driver was telling a lady in a wheel chair that she couldn't get on because there was no space.

As the bus pulled away I rang the bell to say that I would get off with my pram. Bit of a cuffle to get off. The wheelchair user then caught up with bus and eventually got on to share the wheelchair/pram area with a dog in a pram!

AIBU to think that the world has gone mad! I was half sniggering and Shock as I walked the rest of the way home. I still can't believe it.

I've seen ferrets in a buggy before.

People are bloody weird.

Dogs in strollers are all the rage here in NYC, partly because you're not allowed to take them on the subway/buses otherwise. They also dress small dogs in designer clothes - I kid you not!

I have a dog pram.. I'm disabled and use a frame.. So that
My dog can travel with me.. We use pram .. Not many
Mums move their prams for my frame but do for
Dog pram... Maybe we could go back to no unfolded prams on bus! Only wheelchairs ..

I used to regularly overtake a motorbike in London, towing a trailer with a "Dog Aboard" sign, I only ever saw the dogs nose pressed against one of the portholes.

I saw it being towed by 2 different bikes over the course of a couple of years and always assumed the dog was "Lift Sharing"...

I saw a dog in a stroller today, a staffy, jack Russell cross and utterly gorgeous. The man told me he was very old and can't walk far because of arthritis. He looked very princely in his carriage.

Err... This wasn't on the no.8 bus was it, OP?

Because I saw a lady with a dog in a pram get off the no.8 as I got on... Unless there are just LOADS of them Grin

There's an old lady near me that pushes her Westie around in a buggy. He's got arthritis, and can hardly walk, poor little sod.
Don't really get why it's still imperative that he's taken for his daily "walk", though.

My aunt and uncle have a much beloved but elderly Jack Russell terrier who has major mobility problems. They take him out in a pet pram for fresh air. They also change his nappies, because in the past few months he became incontinent. I think they're mad, but I'm a cat person, not a dog person. Apparently the vet says their dog's not in much pain yet, so they're willing to wait until he is in pain to put him down. In the meantime, their lives revolve around him, but they're retired, so it's all good.

I suppose if you had an elderly dog and didn't have a car and wanted to go to the vet a dog pram would be very useful.

However, given that it is such a faff to take a pram on a bus (and space is limited) , I wouldn't be using one, unless out of necessity, for an occupant that could be left at home.

If you have dogs, you would know you can buy strollers for dogs.. this could be due to a stroke or vestibular disease where the legs are impededed.. Glad many of you find it funny..

I pushed my old, recuperating cat around in ds old buggy.

He walked for a few yards, they laid on the floor.

So I scooped him up and he rested for a few minutes.

Then he jumped down and walked again.

He was on a harness. We had some funny looks.

But he got stronger.

Woodrose, I'm a member of a spaniel forum, we have a dog stroller that has been passed on many times. I think it's fantastic that people look after their old dogs as well as they look after their pups.

What if you have an older dog, who can't walk far, (but far enough that they still have dignity and enjoy life) and a younger dog who needs the exercise? Surely a stroller is the humane way of meeting both dogs' needs?

I have a pram for my old arthritic pug. Othello loves to go for a walk but can't manage more then 60 metres these days. I also have a bicycle trailer that they both pugs go in when we go for bike rides.
I am not mad.
Honestly.

I don't have a car and needed to get my cat to the vet. I put him in a cat carrier and loaded the carrier on to a stroller (reclined flat). Cat was very unhappy and quite vocal in expressing his displeasure. I received many 'looks'.

I will have to do it again next time either of my cats need to go to the vet. I could really do with a pet stroller!

I think if you have a dog that has reached the stage of needing to be wheeled about in a pram to take exercise and wear nappies, its being kept alive for the benefit of the owners, not the dog...
