AIBU?

To be shocked at seeing a dog in a pram on the bus.

I was on the bus today with my ten month old DS. Another lady got on with a pram with a dog in it. I was a bit shocked and sniggered a bit to myself. I even looked again just to check it was a dog- it was a small dog. No idea what breed. BUT THEN we got to a stop and you could tell that the bus driver was telling a lady in a wheel chair that she couldn't get on because there was no space.

As the bus pulled away I rang the bell to say that I would get off with my pram. Bit of a cuffle to get off. The wheelchair user then caught up with bus and eventually got on to share the wheelchair/pram area with a dog in a pram!

AIBU to think that the world has gone mad! I was half sniggering and Shock as I walked the rest of the way home. I still can't believe it.

Wheelchairs should take precedence - the driver was wrong to tell the disabled person to wait. Well done for getting off but the person with the dog in a pram should have.

It is funny, but they shouldn't be inconveniencing other people by taking up scarce space on the bus.

I had not not heard of dog strollers, I think the idea is bloody ridiculous. I have seen a dog on a specially adapted wheeled contraption though, think its back legs had gone.

Surely that pink dog/cat pushchair would be utterly fucking useless for a cat??

You could swaddle the cat.

Why didn't you or the driver or anyone else tell dog pram woman that SHE would need to fold her pushchair or get off the bus to let the wheelchair user on?! There's no way I'd get off a bus to leave room for a dog in a pushchair, that's crazy. I can't believe she sat by and watched you get off the bus with your child to let the wheelchair user on and didn't offer to get off herself - brass neck or what?

My friend's dog - possibly the only dog I've ever really bonded with, btw, I'm normally more a cat and duck person - had back leg problems in the last couple of years of his life and used a doggie wheelchair contraption that he had to be strapped into. The point of it was that he could still walk, run, chase cats and generally be as much of a nuisance as before Wink - he'dve hated being stuck in a pram. Plus he could sit next to a normal bus seat while wearing the thing. The only problems happened when he needed the loo. I don't understand why anyone would put a non-disabled dog in a buggy, can't imagine the dog enjoying the experience...

I've taken my cat to the vets in the pram - it was in a cat carrier as well though. Still felt everyone was judging me for being bonkers, I know DH did but he didn't tell me he'd booked the car in for an MOT...

OMG I am so laughing at this:
Are you absolutely sure it was a dog and not a baby in well, a dog suit?

I saw a dog in a pram at St Pancras station a few years ago, I was like this Shock . This was way before TOWIE started so it's not all their fault but mostly is . I've never seen one here oop north though. Think that's because northerners actually walk their dogs and let them shit all over the pavements and leave said shit for pedestrians to walk in .

I rigged up a carrier/pushchair combo for my cat so he could come to work with me. Unfortunately he lost a fight with a car before his Pets As Therapy paperwork came through, so it was never tested.

I wouldn't have taken him on public transport in it though Hmm

I saw a woman in Munich with two tiny dogs (chihuahuas, maybe) which were contentedly poking their noses out of her handbag as she strutted about! I remember thinking it was a nice idea but probably wouldn't work with St Bernards :)

I've seen dogs in prams, dogs in trailers and a marvellous contraption where the dog had its missing back legs replaced with wheels. He looked like the happiest out of the three. The one I saw in a pram belonged to an elderly woman, also on a bus and that dog looked positively ancient. I can understand why she needed to ferry it about in a buggy. Its unlikely she was strong enough to pick it up and it was too little (and old) to climb aboard itself.
The one in the trailer belonged to a woman I didnt know, but spoke to occasionally. It was very sad. The dog was huge (some sort of shaggy lab) and had arthritis. She couldnt bear to have him put down, and he could walk a bit, so she'd get him onto the trailer, drag him to the park, then let him walk there before getting him back on the trailer and dragging him back home. I saw her doing that twice a day for the year I lived in that house.

I have three retired racing greyhounds, all of them getting on a bit and the eldest is going blind.

If any of them needed help walking or could no longer walk I would rig up some kind of charabanc contraption/trailer/etc in an instant. Anything to help them stay happy and reasonably healthy in mind and body.My other half dreads the day when it might happen that we pull the dogs along for their evening constitutional! I love those hounds more than most things though so I'd do it if I had to.

However even if they were small enough to take in a stroller on a bus I wouldnt do it. Its just ridiculous that someone had to get off so that the dog could ride on with its owner. Even if the owner was elderly or disabled it doesnt seem right to take up that extra space for the dog.

My neighbour takes a stroller out with her dog. He has very poor back legs and cant always make it home so she pushes him back in the buggy.
She thinks its important he still has fresh air, exercise and to walk as far as is omfortable for him.
Tbh i dont see the problem

Honestly, you lot are horrible. Dog in a pram (if it's disabled) is no different than a person in a wheelchair. And let's be honest, how many of us would really inconvenience ourselves for someone else? Maybe person with dog had a desperate appointment somewhere, had to take the dog to leave it with a friend, and it wasn't capable of walking.

I'd probably pick my dog over most people anyway. Most people are dicks.

We had a new child start mid term and Mum came to pick her up with a pushchair which at first everyone thought contained DC2. When other parents looked in they saw it actually contained 2 small dogs - was the talk of our small town for ages. When DC2 did eventually came along she would arrive with one of those tandem pushchairs - dogs in front DC in the back !! She was rather eccentric in other ways too.
