To be shocked at seeing a dog in a pram on the bus.

I was on the bus today with my ten month old DS. Another lady got on with a pram with a dog in it. I was a bit shocked and sniggered a bit to myself. I even looked again just to check it was a dog- it was a small dog. No idea what breed. BUT THEN we got to a stop and you could tell that the bus driver was telling a lady in a wheel chair that she couldn't get on because there was no space.

As the bus pulled away I rang the bell to say that I would get off with my pram. Bit of a cuffle to get off. The wheelchair user then caught up with bus and eventually got on to share the wheelchair/pram area with a dog in a pram!

AIBU to think that the world has gone mad! I was half sniggering and Shock as I walked the rest of the way home. I still can't believe it.

Where I used to live there was not just one dog pushed around in an old fashioned pram, but two!

There were a couple of eccentric old biddies, each with a big pram, each with a smallish dog. They used to meet up and walk around the village together each day and go to the park.

I loved the harrods pet dept. Apart from the poor puppies being kept in there. It was amazing. The outfits were almost as good as the children's section!

troisgarcons · 28/02/2012 07:32

I used to work with a lady who had no children .....and doted on her yorkie. She used to take it to Harrods and buy ridiculous outfits - the Biggles leather jacket and aviator goggles springs to mind - anyway, I think she finally flipped and lost the plot whas when she sent the bloody dog on a photographic shoot, in all it's little costumes and sent everyone a calender with the damned thing on Hmm

needles to say, she used to go to Cliff Richard concerts too.

The dog in the pram scenario is a common one here in my northern seaside town full of aged ex land ladies. I was Confused when I first saw one and laughed openly until I was glared at by the terrifying tattoed man who came out to push along his Yorkshire terrier.

The world has gone mad.

nameuschangeus · 28/02/2012 07:37

lesley33 not disabled, no. Just owners who are nutty as a fruitcake. Grin

Laambkins · 28/02/2012 07:47

I saw someone pushing a dog around in a pram in Keswick. Very, very odd and very, very amusing Grin

EauDeLaPoisson · 28/02/2012 07:47

There is a strange old lady round here who pushes her dog around in a pram, she is usually in nightwear too

aliceinboots · 28/02/2012 07:52

I blame TOWIE for this, dogs in strollers. Two of the morons from the show were pushing their small but able bodied mutts around in the stroller linked further up the page.
Yes, the world has gone fucking mad.

aliceinboots · 28/02/2012 07:54

It could have been worse I suppose. I could have been one of those hideous "born again" or whatever they're called creepy baby dolls aimed at mad women.

jubilee10 · 28/02/2012 07:56

Do they do one suitable for labs?

GrittersWifeAndProud · 28/02/2012 08:02

I saw an old lady at the seaside once pushing a papillion in a converted shopping trolley, it was sat in it poking it's head out the hole in the front :o

BackPackBackPack · 28/02/2012 08:03

YANBU.

I have seen a lady in the town pushing one. Every week we go to town she is there with her dog in a pushchair. DD keeps asking for one for her toy dog.

backwardpossom · 28/02/2012 08:07

The review on that amazon link is great. "test run by daughter in town - got many looks" I wonder why she got many looks... is it because it's completely barking (nyatch!) to be pushing a dog around in a fecking pram?!

runningwilde · 28/02/2012 08:10

You can get dog prams for pooches now, they are mostly designed for old dogs I think. There was an article in the DM yday about it. I have nothing against them if the dog is poorly or very old but I think babies in prams and definitely wheelchair users should take priority on buses over dogs in prams!

BalloonSlayer · 28/02/2012 08:15

God I Love Mumsnet!

Only on here would the first reply be "well maybe the dog was disabled"

Grin Grin Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/02/2012 08:15

The key issue is, should she have folded her dog pushchair and do dogs in pushchairs come lower down the food chain than babies in pushchairs?

valiumredhead · 28/02/2012 08:16

You've clearly never watched TOWIE Wink

chandellina · 28/02/2012 08:20

My friends in New York have a special buggy for their cats to go out with them so nothing surprises me. Aren't drivers meant to ask the buggies off though for the wheelchair?

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 28/02/2012 08:22

There is someone who lives near us that has a pram for her dog. She also has a printed sign stuck to it that says "I am not mad. Freddy has a heart condition which means he can't walk far, but otherwise is a fit and happy dog who still enjoys being out and about." Both DS and I look like this Grin whenever we spot them but there is still a tiny part of me that thinks the first sentence on her sign is a little bit not true.

I believe that John Barrowman has a similar pram for one of his elderly dogs.

Silverlace · 28/02/2012 08:24

I was gaping open mouthed a few weeks ago when I saw a woman pushing a pushchair type thing with 3 Siamese cats in it. Never seen anything like it in these parts before!

bamboobutton · 28/02/2012 08:30

i've seen a pug being pushed about in a pink pram. it was netted in and was leaping about trying to get out.

it was sad and hilarious at the same time

thisisyesterday · 28/02/2012 08:33

do you know, i use to laugh at the woman who brought her dog to school in a pushchair
BUT I have recently been looking at rescue dogs and have seen at least 2 that have said that they have leg problems and would need you to carry them or use a dog pushchair to get them to soft ground before exercisign them

so now i feel bad
