To not watch part 2 of Birdsong?

Seriously. The war bits were very compelling. But his rubber-lipped-ness, especially in the love scenes, just made my stomach churn. I don't think I can watch the second part. I loved the book, but I think you have to be comfortable with the main character. And I'm not, gah, I'm just not. Who the hell is he? I can't believe they couldn't have cast someone less rubber lipped better? And actually, don't get me started on her. Who is she? Her face was winding me up as much as his by the end of it...

Sigh, I know I am probably being unreasonable. It's okay, I can take it. Just pissed off as I'd kept it saved it up on Record for so long Sad

In my defence, I have to say 2 characters faces have never caused me to stop watching something before.

And I also realise I should have posted this in TV, sorry Blush

I liked it :)

threestepsforward · 26/02/2012 22:03

Ah but then goingforgoal that means you must have liked him! Because he's there all the way through! Do we see less of him in part 2

tassisssss · 26/02/2012 22:05

Yeah I kind of agree. Didn't do it for me either and I'd loved the book about 12 years ago.

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/02/2012 22:06

It made me cwy :) Pwoar he was sexy but reminded me of a male Sue 'lip quivering' Ewing. There is sad news in part two.

mamalovebird · 26/02/2012 22:06

I found part 2 all a bit big stares and intense, and a bit dragged out tbh. I loved the book but the dramatisation let me down. You won't miss much.

NeshBugger · 26/02/2012 22:08

She plays Fleur Delacour in the HP films.
The 2nd half is much better imo

mamalovebird · 26/02/2012 22:08

if anything you see more of him in part 2 as she disppears

threestepsforward · 26/02/2012 22:10

It was the mad staring as much as the lips business, should have mentioned that.
I know it sounds silly, but I really couldn't handle another 90 mins of it and will probably never watch it.

I've read the book (several times), and was really looking forward to this.

Ah well, never mind. Have a stack of new books to read Smile

Gutted!
Thank you for the heads up guys... I won't be watching part 2! I did like Firebrace, however, phwar, if he was cast as the lead, no problemo Grin

My dh recorded it for me but I couldn't face another hour of watching that useless wooden vacant looking idiot or that simpering girl.

Tooblunt2012 · 26/02/2012 22:21

This is so funny as its been in our planner for a while now & I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it but wasnt sure why! Think you've hit the nail on the head as he just doesn't do it for me & I adored the book when I read it 11 years ago!

Think I will still watch it but not for another while!!

Shugochara · 26/02/2012 22:24

I loved Firebrace - what a lovely man.

Hated the hero - slack jawed, and indeed rubber-lipped.

OriginalJamie · 26/02/2012 22:25

It was not that good. I found it strangely unmoving, and I'm quite easily moved. Did not do justice to the book, which IMO has some of the best sex and war scenes I've read

OriginalJamie · 26/02/2012 22:26

Firebracevwas good, though

ArielNonBio · 26/02/2012 22:27

She played the Veela in Harry Potter 5

Shugochara · 26/02/2012 22:27

Agreed, OriginalJamie, Seb Faulkes's best bits. It was a poor effort.

ArielNonBio · 26/02/2012 22:28

That's right, Fleur Delacour...

must read thread....

WTFlike · 26/02/2012 22:29

Funny innit? I could gaze at both of them forever. I thought they were both stunningly beautiful.

otchayaniye · 26/02/2012 22:30

Awful MOR stuff. Unwatchable in this house

southeastastra · 26/02/2012 22:30

wasnt' she in InBruges too?

i switched over and caught a bit of snogging and it made me laugh

sure the whole series was much better though

ArielNonBio · 26/02/2012 22:31

Oh, "In Bruges"? I LOVE that film. Makes me laugh and laugh. And then cry.

If Bruges was anywhere good it would be swarming with fucking people wouldn't it? But it's in fucking Belgium Grin

DonInKillerHeels · 26/02/2012 22:32

Actually, I think he's beautiful, but that Birdsong 1 was painfully tedious and WAY too much womantic wuv-making (bleugh)

Tooblunt2012 · 27/02/2012 12:13

I watched it last night after this thread - waste of time & very disappointing. Book was sooooo much better!

threestepsforward · 27/02/2012 12:37

Sorry my thread prompted you to watch it tooblunt - 90 mins of your life you'll never get back Grin

Was she in In Bruges? I loved that film too, was excellent!

Nope, I definitely won't be watching part 2. So many better people they could have cast. I felt no empathy with them at all, and the book actually had me in tears at points, not something that happens often (and not tears at the 'wuv scenes' I hasten to add!)
