she wouldnt give me a MAP, because I'd already had one this month. now I'd done some research before hand, and know that although its not reccomended to take it twice ing the same month, threres nothing stopping me from doing so.

she was funny about the fact that I had had bleeding today, she told me very patronisingly that If i was having my period then I couldnt be pregnant, never mind the fact that my so called 'period' is early and a lot lighter than usual...

she told me to 'wait and see'

AIBU to think that I could have just had the friggin MAP and then 'waited to see...?'

YOU can get something called breakthrough bleeding (mid packet) the first couple of months after starting the pill, according to my leaflet!

SoundOfHerWings · 26/02/2012 11:46

I'm sure you know that taking the morning after pill twice in one month isn't ideal, and it's really not that effective- the only two people I know who've taken it it didn't work. But that's no excuse for the pharmacist to be judgy and rude.

It isn't too early to poas- you could get a positive now, (I got a positive 10 days after ovulation, a full week before my period was due) but you'd need to wait until after your period is due to make sure it's really a negative.

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 26/02/2012 12:00

Thank you to the people that havnt gone all judgy, I know it's not ideal, that I'm daft/silly/stupid but what's done is done an I'm trying to fix a bad situation ive got myself into.

I only started taking the pill on friday, which was the first day of this bleed, and the same day as the unprotected sex. So if this is my period and not just a random bleed, then I'm covered. But because of the small chance that it isn't my period, there should be some advice, procedure or something rather than 'wait and see'?

I know I'm stupid but surely I'm not th first person this has happned to?

I am appalled by some of the comments on here assuming the OP has been irresponsible for not using contraception. Having had to use the MAP before on several occasions due to split condoms. It humilating enough having to explain why I needed it. I have had two split in the space of a month - the second time I was so upset and couldn't face going for it again - THAT was stupid but fortunately I was ok.

My DH was paranoid enough the first time and always made doubly sure he was using them correctly too. And it STILL happened twice more.

I think a few of you should apologise to the OP about your judgey pants. She's obviously upset and worried and frankly doesn't need your bitchiness.

Honestly, the only people who should be ashamed on this thread are the ones having a go at someone, distressed and asking for help.

Think I will get a test, but will have to walk to a different pharmacy, cant face going back to the one across the road.

Thank you cherry.

Could you go to your GP tomorrow and get a coil fitted or is it too late for that?

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 26/02/2012 13:43

Little, I think I'll go to my family planning clinic tomorrow morning, and explain the whole situation, and see what they say. Always had good advice from there, and they are most likely to know what to do without judging. If they recommend the coil I'll go for it, even though the idea is a little scary...

It's nice to see so many perfect people on here who've obviously never made a mistake!
Surely "stupid" (as the OP has been dubbed by some of you charmers) would be to chance it and not bother getting the MAP?
OP - your plan of going to family planning centre is a good one. I am equally shit on the pill so am booked in for the implant next month.

Selyna · 26/02/2012 14:57

So nice of some of the people on here calling the OP stupid, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Never made any sort of mistake in your life have you, oh no, perfect you lot are aren't you? Hmm

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/02/2012 15:05

MAP? confused

Pseudo341 · 26/02/2012 15:16

If you had regular periods prior to starting the pill with a reasonable length cycle you're very unlikely to get pregnant by having sex on the first day of your period. I'm not suggesting that's something you should rely on in future, just trying to put your mind at rest for the moment. Without actually monitoring when you ovulate you can't be absolutely sure, but having used natural family planning for years (temperature monitoring), I can say you'd have to have a very odd and probably very short cycle to still be fertile when your period started.

Not sure if the pharmacist should have given you the pills or not, she probably thought she was following the correct guidelines, but she definitely shouldn't be making rude comments like that, it's none of her business.

QuietNinjaLamp · 26/02/2012 16:03

I know someone who wanted the map and was told there was no chance they were pregnant so was refused it. One abortion later. Go to a different pharmacy to get it to be safe.

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 26/02/2012 17:07

thank you to the lovely ladies that have come to my defence, helps me feel a little less shit about myself at the moment Smile

Morning After Pill, GoingForGoalWeight

desperatenotstupid · 26/02/2012 20:58

Is this a windup?? twice in one month? Have you not heard of condoms?

SardineQueen · 26/02/2012 21:12

Oh give it a rest!

bugsylugs · 26/02/2012 21:54

riding both pop and coco cover from first day of period. The confusion is that you have already had MAP ? You took that on 16th so do not know definitely that it worked. The best emergency contraception is the coil less failure rate. MAP can be taken twice in a cycle as long as not pregnant but pharmacist has to be happy to give but should have been kind. I would go to family planning tomorrow they will go through it all carefully one MAP can still be used even tomorrow but coil safer but you may need either. Good luck.

McHappyPants2012 · 26/02/2012 22:52

if you have a coil fitted ( not sure which one) with in 5 days of unprotected sex it can also protect against an unwanted pregnancy.

OP please protect yourself from having to make the descion to continue or end a pregnancy.

RevoltingPeasant · 26/02/2012 23:33

OP I remember getting the MAP when I was 19 and the way the woman at the clinic refused to hand it over - actually held it in both her hands - until I had listened to her lecture on Not Having Unprotected Sex. Angry

Then I told her that our condom had broke and she went all huffy.

Mistakes happen. Don't beat yourself up. Go to the family planning clinic, put measures in place to make sure this doesn't happen again, and write a letter of complaint to the pharmacy about their employee's thoroughly unprofessional behaviour.

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 27/02/2012 16:17

went to the family planning clinic today, had to wait 3 hours to get seen (!) but when I did, saw a lovely woman, explained everything, she gave me an STI test, I took a pregnancy test there (negative) but she gave me another one to take away with me telling me to do it on the 8th, as well as giving me the MAP after consulting with the doctor.

She didn't judge at all other than showing relief when I said I'd started on the pill again, and giving me a lot of free condoms to take away. tbh I probably deserved more judging than I got.

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 27/02/2012 16:57

That sounds like a really good service.

Glad you got seen and tested and all the rest of it. Smile

I think you got more than enough judging on here!

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 01/03/2012 11:14

caved and did the test I was given early, period was meant to start yesterday but hasnt, but realised that it wont anyway seeing as I've started on the pill again. It was negative.

will buy another one to do on the 8th, but think (hope) that it should be ok, because a positve would show after two weeks which would be today. Is that right?
