I honestly dont know if this is ok or not.

I have left him for 20/30 minutes whilst I have popped to the shop.

I have an appointment tomorrow and am taking the 2 little ones but he doesnt want to come.
I will be 5 minutes away - WWYD

Yes I would, have you a mobile you can take with you so he can ring if there is a problem?

CremeEggThief · 24/02/2012 19:23

He will be fine! Especially if it's only 5 minutes away.

Lilyloo · 24/02/2012 19:23

yes

cardibach · 24/02/2012 19:23

Yes I would. At 11 DD came hoem from school and let herself in to wait for me. SHe would easily have been on her own for an hour most days. SHe loved it.

Lilyloo · 24/02/2012 19:24

sorry thats yes i would leave him not that i think yabu

ilovebabytv · 24/02/2012 19:28

Well it always depends on the child. My ds is 11 and when he has inservice days and im working i think nothing of leaving him on his own from 9 till i get home at 12.45. But then my brother is 15 and just recently started getting left on his own. If he can be trusted for 20/30 mins then I dont see what he could do in 90 mins that he couldn't do in 30, so i imagine he would be fine.

Bearcat · 24/02/2012 19:28

DS1, now 24 used to let himself into the house when he was in Year 6 primary school, and be by himself for about 1.25 hours.
He was very sensible, told not to answer the door to anyone and would watch TV and eat biscuits.

zumm · 24/02/2012 19:30

Some kids are up to all sorts at 11 (see kissing thread ;) - don't worry about it!

crje · 24/02/2012 19:37

YANBU
He'll be fine-tell him not to answer the door or cook anything.

BellaVita · 24/02/2012 19:40

Oh fgs he will be fine.

Gawd, he is either yr6 or yr7. He will probably be happy to get one peace and quiet.

FrameyMcFrame · 24/02/2012 19:41

I think year 6 it's fine. I left DD for an hour last week and she's 10 soon to be 11

jamdonut · 24/02/2012 19:47

l would and do.

Avantia · 24/02/2012 19:58

Ditto - would do , have done .

FabbyChic · 24/02/2012 20:37

Of course it is okay, my 10.5 year old used to let himself in with a key at 3.30 in the afternoon and be on his own till i came home 2 hours later. That was 13 years ago.

squeakytoy · 24/02/2012 20:39

Would you let him play out for an hour on his own (I would have thought so at 11,) so of course you can leave him at home on his own!

cantfindamnnickname · 25/02/2012 13:21

thanks all

I left him for the hour - h was fine - pleased to be trusted
