I bet she's got an embarrassingly baggy vagina and can't get a boyfriend

Whoops, I meant embarrassingly small penis and can't get a girlfriend.

Nearly said something terribly sexist there!

OP posts:
ShirleyO · 24/02/2012 11:51

Yeah, that's what I meant.

PandaWatch · 24/02/2012 11:52

Just clicked on the link. Now trying to work out how to go back in time to when I hadn't clicked on the link so I didn't have to see that Sad

All I can say is I really hope that girl didn't see all that vile filth.

ArielNonBio · 24/02/2012 11:55

Just clicked on the link. How I wish I hadn't. How incredibly depressing.

PandaWatch · 24/02/2012 11:57

Sorry Shirley that was a bit dickish and passive aggressive of me! I know that's not what you meant.

And that link was quite an eye opener - naive as it may sound I am gobsmacked that people on what looks like quite a normal forum could be so monstrous.

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 11:58

Oh sorry I didn't mean to upset anyone

Just things like the OP piss me off. Saying women on MN are sexist when the stuff all over the internet being said about women and girls is just a trillion million billion times worse.

AND when someone says something on MN like "all men are rubbish at cleaning" everyone shouts at them for being sexist while on sites elsewhere the most appalling things are said about women and girls and children and no-one bats an eyelid.

EdnaClouds · 24/02/2012 11:58

Absolutely stunned. If I was that girls mother I'd be on to the police.

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2012 12:01

The people in that link are totally monstrous!

Having said that, I'm surprised it's been mentioned in the context of this thread....a bit like bringing a gun to a fist fight in a sense.

This thread (the way I read it) is about the sexist double standards on MN...of which there are many examples to be seen every day.

There's both male and female sexism on many other forums too...however I think the amusing thing about MN is how many people deliberately fail to see or admit it.

Still, it passes the time when I should be watching daytime TV ironing Grin

ILoveToPost01 · 24/02/2012 12:03

My fanny is big :(

ShirleyO · 24/02/2012 12:04

! That's OK Panda. My response to you was pretty aggressive aggressive. The thing is that I've been pootling around the old interwebs for quite a while now, and seen many, MANY sites which routinely talk about Surprise Sex and What Cunts women are and blah blah blah.

MN seems to rile some people up out of all reason IMO, because this is a place where strong women have opinions and aren't shut up by big mouthed men belittling them.

Sexism is often challenged here - and I stand up when "aw aren't men DAFT?" shit starts circulating - but "he's probably got a small cock"? Doesn't really bother me after reading many eye watering descriptions of how hard Nigella Lawson would get it in her grateful face etc.

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:04

Agree with Shirley

bejeezus · 24/02/2012 12:05

I am confused everytime someone complains that MN is misandrist
Agree with sardine - the worst that is said, is about housework/organisational skills and it is ALWAYS challenged

That link- that's abysmal. That IS something to complain about

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:06

That's just something that was raised on a thread on MN a couple of months ago which is why I thought of it.

I don't actually use any websites other than this one but am aware that many parts of the net are not what you might call "female friendly".

That's what is so great about MN I think.

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2012 12:07

But sexism is sexism Shirley, surely you're either against it or you're not?

I don't see why a minority of idiots talking about Nigella or any other celebrity would make you not bothered about women insulting a man for the size of his cock?

If sexism stands any chance of being stamped out, it has to be stamped out on 'both sides' imo.

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:10

You logic worra means that someone slapping someone around the face is as bad as someone murdering someone, skinning them and stuffing them down the drain.

Of course sexism is always bad but some sexism is worse than other sexism. Threats of gang rape are worse than saying someone isn't very good at cleaning windows.

Hullygully · 24/02/2012 12:11

women suffer much more from sexism than men

the end

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2012 12:16

You logic worra means that someone slapping someone around the face is as bad as someone murdering someone, skinning them and stuffing them down the drain

No, the phrase 'Bringing a gun to a fist fight' means an extreme reaction to something nowhere near as extreme.

That link was absolutely dreadful (there are no words)

The OP however, is pointing out the double standards on the forum we're on right now.

That's the best way I can explain it really.

bejeezus · 24/02/2012 12:17

The difference IMO is the same difference between racism against black people and racism against white people

It's historical context and that women ARE disadvantaged by being women. Men aren't and haven't been oppressed over centuries

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:17

It was in response to this, worra.

"But sexism is sexism Shirley, surely you're either against it or you're not?

I don't see why a minority of idiots talking about Nigella or any other celebrity would make you not bothered about women insulting a man for the size of his cock?"

ShirleyO · 24/02/2012 12:19

Worra.

Not really, I think I'll worry a bit more about the fact that I am currently typing on a predominantly female site about the horrible women being horrible about the poor men. It's fucking YAWNSOME more than anything.

I bet the people moaning about the horrible sexism aren't going onto PetrolHeadsRUs (for example) and starting threads saying "Joking about anal rape ain't funny y'all!" and if they are I can guarantee they get a pithier response than here.

Believe.

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:19

How do you know it is a minority of idiots, worra?
Do you have stats showing how many men who use internet forums have been involved in conversations about horrible things to do with women/girls, or read them and not said anything to pull people up on what they are saying?

Nesbo · 24/02/2012 12:20

The regularity of the "small cock" comments gets a bit tiring, I've not come across a bunch of people apparently so obsessed with penis size since I left school! It just becomes background noise though.

There are unfortunately groups of very vocal men/adolescents who seem to use the Internet to pour out bile from the dark recesses of their minds. I avoid places where they congregate and will happily shout them down if they turn up on the very few forums I do like reading. If there was a way of banning them from using the Internet I'd be all for it!

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:23

The double standard is that women on MN are supposed to be terribly careful what they say about men at all times, just in case it can be construed in any way as less than complimentary, while over the entire rest of the net men are free to indulge in the most vile conversation and fantasy imaginable with little fear of rebuke.

Truckulentagain · 24/02/2012 12:26

This isn't Petrol Heads though.

It's Britain's leading parenting website.

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2012 12:27

Sardine My 'minority' of idiots was about what was said about Nigella Lawson

I dont' think the majority of men in the UK said that about her because to be honest, she's not that famous.

Either way there are some very sexist threads on internet forums in general, but as the OP points out...MN is certainly no exception.

You can deny that, agree with it, come up with reasons for it or try to make excuses for it....but the fact remains that MN is at times a very sexist forum.

SardineQueen · 24/02/2012 12:29

And?

Are there no parents on petrolheads?
Should parents be held to a higher standard of behaviour than others?
Is it because this site is mainly visited by women?

Bottom line is saying "all men are rubbish at cleaning" and then getting told off by 15 million people is not the same as a lot of the absolutely vile stuff out there to do with women and children that continues unabated.

It is the old double standard.
