To think I can't possibly go back to this martial arts class even though it wasn't my fault?

Have to be brief as on my way out but I started a martial arts class after new year and LOVED it and have graded once already. Anyway last Friday instructor asked me to help him demonstrate something and wanted me to attack him. I got way over excited (medical issue) and screamed at him "come on you bastard!" and went for him really aggressively. Everyone gasped and the instructor didn't even demonstrate what he wanted to demonstrate, just restrained me and eventually asked me to "take a breather" in the changing rooms. He came in (unisex) to see me 10 minutes later and I explained my medical condition and he said it was absolutely fine and that he just wanted to make sure I was ok. I was but I'm so embarrassed that I can't see myself ever going again which is gutting because I really loved it and it took a lot of courage to go in the first place. He has since called me and asked why I wasn't there on Wednesday and I told him I'm still mortified at what I did and he laughed it off saying everyone has forgetten about it as competitions are coming up and everyone's mind is on that.
AIBU to think he's just saying that to make me feel better and I will be the talk of the dojo for weeks/months to come?

Grin

I was attending a NCT class once & one of the couples came in late. The lady taking the class asked if all was ok & the wife made some comment about the DH not wanting to get out of bed only for him to respond 'fuck you!' really loudly!
Everyone went very quiet...but we all carried on as normal. DH & I had a little chuckle about it after but they came back the following week all lovey dovey (overly so!).

I wouldn't worry about it. Just go back. It's nice that the instructor cares enough to call you & ask why you weren't there.

TheCunningStunt · 23/02/2012 17:07

Grin brilliant op....YABU though...go back, but thanks for the laugh!

LittlePebble · 23/02/2012 17:08

Please explain why having liquid near makes you violent? I've nearly peed myself laughing so hard....

RabidEchidna · 23/02/2012 17:09

Liquid? such as gin?

recall · 23/02/2012 17:09

they won't be laughing at you at the class, its different, its funny to us because you have told us about it. I would pay folding money to come with you Grin

recall · 23/02/2012 17:10

Could stop at the pub for a quickie on the way Grin

FecalVomit · 23/02/2012 17:12

Just any liquid really, if there is liquid there I tend to get an overwhelming urge to pour it if I'm excited and if anyone else is there, it usually gets poured in their direction. I'm sounding like a total psycho now Sad I'm not a bad person, I don't like being like this but my friends have accepted it and sometimes I forget that other people don't realise I'm not doing it on purpose.

Awww sorry OP....feel mean now

aldiwhore · 23/02/2012 17:13

Let them laugh Fecal because it probably WAS very funny. If they're decent they'll chuckle forever but still put an arm round you.

Go back. Not sure of your medical condition (tourettes?) but I think maybe the disciplines in martial arts may help you to be more affective and targetted with your rage if nothing else your control?

You instructor sounds fab. Go. Keep going. LOVE IT.

Psammead · 23/02/2012 17:13

Oh that's ok. From your description of liquid= agression I was thnking rabies. Grin

Hold your head high and go back. You've as much right to be there as anyone.

DilysPrice · 23/02/2012 17:14

Don't let Eric Joyce MP see this - he'll suddenly come up with a diagnosis which explains everything Smile

Thank you for thinking of me Grin

I think you just sound very enthusiastic, in a nice way.

Look, the instructor bothered to call you. If he thought you were a dangerous loon he wouldn't have done that.

MA is good for concentrating the mind I've heard unless I've completely made that up, which I am prone to do so it would be good for you too, no?

Go back. Tits and teeth! And get your next band.

noinspiration · 23/02/2012 17:18

Awww, you have to go back. It's not like school. Paste on a big smile, and hold your head up high. I bet everyone of your class has done something they'd rather forget at least once in their lives. Me, I told a senior partner at work that he was a cr*p boss and the job sucked. He told me to go home, re-think, come back and apologise.... which I did. Be brave, you can do it!

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/02/2012 17:18

This is great.Im going to yell bastard at my employees and blame it on my medical condition from now on

Hope you're ok fecal. It's just a name ignore them. Could you ask instructor to explain your condition or is that not something you want?

OriginalJamie · 23/02/2012 17:25

No reason to change it. I'll just gag a little (bad memories - you couldn't have known ...)

privateplane · 23/02/2012 17:25

Faecalvomit surely?

Gribble · 23/02/2012 17:29

Sorry but this is making me laugh, not at you but at how you are describing stuff.

Why not just go, honestly, fuck it. Go and just ask for a minute of everyones attention at the begining of the class and explain about your condition. Better explain about the liquid thing so people know not to have anything moist near you.

PandaWatch · 23/02/2012 17:44

This made me snort with laughter (very embarrassing in an open plan office when I should be doing things that are not laughter-inducing) but most definitely laughing with you, not at you.

I honestly don't think it's as big a deal as you think it is. He asked you to attack him - if I were in your class I would have just thought you were being enthuastic. He was probably just taken aback because most people asked to demonstrate stuff like that tend to get all shy and come across about as threatening as a daffodil. You should definitely go back. The worst bit will be walking through the door but once you're inside I'm sure that everything will feel back to normal and you'll wonder what you ever worried about.

rhondajean · 23/02/2012 17:48

Fecal I do martial arts unfortunately not your class or I would insist on picking you up and bundling you in to make you see that actually noone is talking about you by now - on the night there were probably a few wow what happened theres but honestly, noone is bothering and if they have fights coming up your outburst is the last thing they will care about.

The instructor obviously wants you there and it sounds like you have enjoyed it up till now and please please please do not let this put you off. If you absolutely feel you cant return to that class, find another one which is similar and speak to the instructor beforehand, for example at my gym it they knew they wouldnt ask you to demonstrate and they would keep an eye for you getting over excited and pull things back a bit.

I think I might know what your condition is btw, and please, honest, do not be embarassed.
