To think that Pizza Express were abit petty asking to see a Tescos Clubcard with the vouchers?

It's never happened before and I use them all the time. I gave them to my mum and they refused to accept them as her name is one initial different to mine.

They asked because they want to prevent the situation you describe, so not petty from a business point of view. Is there something in the voucher small print about them being non-transferrable?

BearlyThere · 23/02/2012 13:13

so what?
move on

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2012 13:13

Are the vouchers transferable?

I'd have to check, but maybe it says in the terms and conditions that you may be asked to show the clubcard when using the vouchers (though, in practice, we never have, at either Cafe Rouge or Bella Italia).

EdinburghRocks · 23/02/2012 13:14

We have the same name barr one initial!

I should have said, if the vouchers are non-transferable, and the right to ask to see the clubcard is in the T&Cs, then they were entirely within their rights to ask and to refuse to accept the vouchers.

It may seem petty, but if it was against the t&c, you can't really moan.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2012 13:15

But you are not the same person - it is your clubcard, not hers, so the deals/offers etc are given to you, not to her. If they are not transferable, then she can't use your deals.

It sounds as if you are just miffed that she got caught.

ExitPursuedByaBear · 23/02/2012 13:16

So if your mum had a completely different name, you wouldn't have tried this?

ShatnersBassoon · 23/02/2012 13:17

"We have the same name barr one initial!"

It's not about the name, it's about the Tesco Clubcard. I assume only the cardholder can use the vouchers associated with that Clubcard account.

So basically it was a bit of a scam that didn't work out. I don't think you can blame Pizza Express for that

EdinburghRocks · 23/02/2012 23:03

It was more a case of she was going to meet her friends, I had vouchers due to run out so, I gave her them. Next time I will give her my clubcard as well. I dont know anyone thats being pulled up before. Not even at the Tower of London, were they could put us straight in the gallows if they wanted to Smile

niceguy2 · 23/02/2012 23:27

So basically you tried to pull a fast one and you got caught out.

And now you ask if the restaurant were being unreasonable!?!?!

DoMeDon · 23/02/2012 23:31

It is a bit petty - you got vouchers fair and sqaure and should be allowed to use them, give them, make planes with them and whatever else you choose!! Maybe it is in the T&C's but why they care is beyond me.

Eaglewings · 23/02/2012 23:33

If vouchers had been nicked and used by someone in the postal system we'd all be saying "but Pizza Express should check the identity of the person using them . . . "

To get £30 off with just £10 of Tesco points isn't bad, and it's their right to check

Bogeyface · 23/02/2012 23:35

Its not the name, its the number.

The number on the vouchers has the match the card, its to prevent people stealing vouchers. I seem to recall there was a postman in the news a few years back that stole hundreds of pounds worth, will try and find a link.

catsareevil · 23/02/2012 23:36

It sounds fair enough, they are non-transferable.

grubbalo · 23/02/2012 23:38

Seems a bit petty to me - morale of the story, lend her your clubcard too next time

pickledparsnip · 23/02/2012 23:48

Can't believe people are saying you were "trying to pull a fast one" and it was a "scam." Haha that's ridiculous. I never had to show my clubcard when I used mine. Sounds like you got a petty jobsworth. Crap luck. Next time give your mum your clubcard.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 23/02/2012 23:52

yabu. You have to show your clubcard to even use these damn vouchers in store, where they're worth much less. I agree it's to stop people stealing them. I share a front door letterbox with flats other than my own. Luckliy my neighbours aren;t about to steal my mail, but I can imagine that some would.

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2012 23:53

I get through 100s of pound's worth of vouchers, and have never been asked to produce a Clubcard.

I don't see why it's a problem if someone other than the cardholder redeems them - no difference to the retailer or to Tesco, is it?

Well, you'll know for next time.

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2012 23:54

I suppose the theft thing makes sense.....

EdinburghRocks · 24/02/2012 00:03

You would think that if you paid for them you could do what you like with them. Its the same with those tastecards, its supposed to be 2 for 1 but, Ive been in there with six people and they have just charged us 2 for 1 for the whole party and, never even asked to see the card! Maybe they are clamping down.

good for them, they caught you trying to take advantage.
