to think that my 8 year old's teacher should not be showing the class her baby scan pictures

My daughter came home to day from school and could not tell me what subjects she had learnt, but could tell me all about her teacher's baby scan. Is it me, or should this type of information be restricted to family and friend's.

I think it's quite nice actually... Educational too.

EirikurNoromaour · 20/02/2012 19:54

YABU
What on earth is the problem?

diabolo · 20/02/2012 19:55

Come on OP! Your DD was obviously interested in this, and it probably took 5 minutes. Get a grip.

mistressploppy · 20/02/2012 19:55

It's you

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 19:55

I think that it's lovely she chose to share. She sounds nice. Smile

EverybodysSnowyEyed · 20/02/2012 19:55

can't see a problem

I personally think its quite nice that the teacher should want to share her exciting news with her class.my children aren't school age yet,but I honestly don't think I'd have a problem with it.
What is it that you find so unreasonable about it?

Clary · 20/02/2012 19:56

How bizarre that you should think that. I doubt if she spent the whole day on it after all; but yes I agree, its nice and could indeed be educational, how the baby grows in its mummy is OK info for an 8yo I would say.

boxoftricks · 20/02/2012 19:56

kids always remember the most interesting part of the day! It's how their brains work! a kid falling over and breaking their arm... someone having a fight in the playground, something AMAZING happening in assembly... its natural!

TheAvocado · 20/02/2012 19:56

yabu. I don't understand why you would have a problem about this unless there was some religious/cultural sensitivity about showing graphic images of living things.... Hmm

FannyFifer · 20/02/2012 19:56

Think that's great of the teacher to show them it, really interesting for them.

gothicangel · 20/02/2012 19:56

my god!

your really have a problem with this?

i think its lovely that she wanted to share it with her class, not all children will have a sibling so its nice for them too see.

YABU.

How interesting for the children - the experience obviously spoke to your DD somehow. You should be pleased that she's taken an interest in something so nice!

JackiePaper · 20/02/2012 19:57

YABU my dd is in reception and was really excited when her teacher brought her scan photos in and can't wait til she has the baby and brings the baby in! I think it's lovely

coraltoes · 20/02/2012 19:57

I agree. Children should be taught babies come from the stork so we can really tackle teenage pregnancy and misinformation about sex. Ffs.

Kids learn so much from real experience. It will fascinate many whose mother hasn't had subsequent children. It is science.

3boysandagirl · 20/02/2012 19:57

YABU. The class are going to notice her expanding belly over the next few months. It's nice for the teacher to share it with the class.

maxpower · 20/02/2012 19:57

sorry yabu

Hulababy · 20/02/2012 19:57

YABU surely.
Why would it be wrong or inappropriate to share a picture of her unborn child? Not really much different to showing them a picture of their child who is already born imo.

I bet a lot of the children are quite excited that their teacher is pregnant and have asked her all manner of questions anyway. My 9y DD would be and would love to see the scan picture.

AnaisB · 20/02/2012 19:57

What's the problem?

ENormaSnob · 20/02/2012 19:57

Yabu

Really can't see your problem tbh.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 19:58

I thought it was the cabbage patch coraltoes. Grin

theroseofwait · 20/02/2012 19:58

If it were my DS1, I'd be thrilled he got to learn at first hand about 'pregnant ladies' and baby scans - he was far too young to remember me having DS2.

It's not like the teacher is showing photos of how the baby got there in the first place. . . . .

BoattoBolivia · 20/02/2012 19:58

Really? Why on earth not? I certainly showed mine to the children I was teaching when I was pregnant- year 4 first time and year 6 second time. I waited until after the first 3 months, but they needed to know, in case I had to dash out for the toilet/ morning sickness. i also needed to eat regularly, so had dried fruit in my desk, and did a lot more teaching from my desk chair. Most of them knew exactly what is was, before I explained it and were very, very excited.
