to think that my 8 year old's teacher should not be showing the class her baby scan pictures

My daughter came home to day from school and could not tell me what subjects she had learnt, but could tell me all about her teacher's baby scan. Is it me, or should this type of information be restricted to family and friend's.

I think YABU I used to teach a reception class and when I told them I was pregnant it started some fantastic discussion and they asked to see the photos. To be honest I worked in a school where the children definitely knew too much, one girl asked how the baby got out and before I could even think about how to answer another boy launched into a perfect description of a C-Section whilst a girl in the class said they come from a special part underneath the mummy and it 'bloody hurts'. Something tells me they had been listening in too hard at home.

Aw, look at that. A poster came in and on her VERY FIRST post you have all scared her away....

Hmm

YABU. The teaching assistant when I was in year 2 showed us her scan pictures and then following year bought the baby to school so we could meet her. Everyone was really excited about it.

The teacher made it into a discussion about babies and how things change at home. I remember me and my classmates giving the teaching assistant all kinds of advice afterwards. Like not to drop the baby, that they smell and not to drive a toy car over the babies head as they don't like that much.

YABU. When my dd was in reception and they were doing a family collage she asked if she could put her baby sisters scan picture in it. I made her a copy and the teacher asked if she could show it to the other children. They were fascinated and prompted other kids to do the same thing.

I think the OP is a silly cow (does this constitute a personal attack or just stating the bleeding obvious)

Strange that oakmaiden eh Hmm

plantsitter · 20/02/2012 22:08

OP, if you are the teacher doing a reverse opinion-polling thread, don't come back and admit it because your terrible apostrophe use will cause a general apoplectic rage I should imagine.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/02/2012 22:09

I think she is milking a perfectly ordinary situation.

What a lovely thing to do. Why on earth would you object?

GreatGretzky · 20/02/2012 22:48

YABU. I honestly can't see why it would ever be a problem...

YANU
DD2 teacher chats about her DD and moving house and all sorts of stuff.
Both DDs are really fond of her. DD1(Y9) still remembers her very fondly.

We forget, with the painful national curriculum, that children are still learning about the world in general and love topical things they can relate to.

YABU and grumpy and precious!

JasperJohns · 20/02/2012 23:12

I think yabu, op.

My son's teacher was pg when he was in her class in y2 and y4.

Both times she shared her scans with the class; my son was fascinated. The children were all very excited by it all. I think she did us all a favour as it started spontaneous discussions about babies and where they come from!
