to think that my 8 year old's teacher should not be showing the class her baby scan pictures

My daughter came home to day from school and could not tell me what subjects she had learnt, but could tell me all about her teacher's baby scan. Is it me, or should this type of information be restricted to family and friend's.

OP posts:

I think its lovely, and can't see why you'd think it was even remotely unreasonable!
Before Xmas DD1, who is 5,'s teacher was pregnant and they made quite a big deal about babies but it was all really lovely.
Teacher showed them all the scan picture and DD came home desperate to see hers. All the children had to try and bring in photocopies of their scans, what their birth weight was, pictures of them as a baby etc.
One mum had just had a baby and so bought her in to show all the DC's - they all 'helped' bathe her and feed her.
All the children absolutely loved it; they couldn't believe it when she bought the baby in after Xmas!

YABU

How can you keep a pregnancy "private"? (well, once you're showing).

Threads should self destruct if OP doesn't return after a certain number of posts.
and OP's should be then banned for a number of weeks after Grin

usualsuspect · 20/02/2012 20:27

I'm saying nothing Wink

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 20:28

Dithering over hiding thread.

PopcornBiscuit · 20/02/2012 20:29

Obviously the bump isn't private, but I don't really like seeing other people's scans, I'd rather just meet their baby once it's born.

McHappyPants2012 · 20/02/2012 20:31

Yabu, I think it is nice

GrahamTribe · 20/02/2012 20:31

Tee, surely not. There are no strings to the OP's post.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 20/02/2012 20:31

usual - do explain, which fur footed creature do you think we might have?

Dustinthewind · 20/02/2012 20:32

You might not PB, but most primary children find things like that fascinating.
I've had xrays and an entire human skeleton (real) in class for them to look at and handle bits of and the class were delighted and fully engaged.

usualsuspect · 20/02/2012 20:33

No particular one , MN just seems odder than normal tonight

Floggingmolly · 20/02/2012 20:34

The teacher's personal life should be kept private from lessons. That was a lesson in itself, was it not? And far more memorable than the rest of the days lessons, apparently. There is no problem here at all.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 20:36

You are not wrong usual. It's all gone weird. Again.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 20/02/2012 20:37

YABU, and peculiar.

So OP when are you coming back on to admit defeat. It's lovely that your daughter is excited. If my DC came back from school with lovely news like this I'd probably make the teacher a card with my child.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/02/2012 20:39

Sparklingbrook - is it as weird as organising clocks? Shall we tell Matthew Wright?

ShagOBite · 20/02/2012 20:42

Absolutely YABU. It's probably one of the most educational and interesting things that class will learn all year. I don't understand why you would possibly object.

PopcornBiscuit · 20/02/2012 20:45

What if the pregnancy did not go to plan? How would the children feel, having seen the scan and not just the teacher-with-a-bump?

I think it would be preferable for children to see a scan of someone unknown.

UphillBothWays · 20/02/2012 20:45

My DD's excellent science teacher asked me to bring in her little sister's scan pictures when she was in Yr 4, along with the little sister herself :o, for their lessons on growing - they compared the size her in the scan pics, newborn pics, and how big she was at 4 months. They all seemed to love it. So yes, YABU!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/02/2012 20:45

I think we may have visitors.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 20:47

Rather (forgot to hide thread Blush) I reckon this will be one of the scintillating topics on TWS tomorrow. Hmm

I sense an invasion of some sort
