to be pissed off at this note left on my car - I want to reply but DH says don't

Few weeks ago neighbours left a note on my car saying don't park opposite our house as we have a newborn baby and it makes it difficult. I am not totally sure what they mean as they have 2 cars and 2 side by side spaces on their drive.

Anyway, no big deal to us, we have avoided parking there since. Now today we are parked further down the road and get another note saying they think we reported them to the police for damaging our car and that it wasn't them.

I want to send a note back saying I don have the foggiest what they are on about but DH says leave it as might end going back and forth etc. If we don't reply will they think it was us that reported them? I want to tell them to bog off to be honest.

Any ideas for a suitably polite response?

Nah! She's in the boot of the car.

People can be very funny about parking - we live in a street with on-road parking only, and some of the neighbours are like this. We've seen notes like the one above demanding someone move their cars, park elsewhere etc because 'WE HAVE CHILDREN!!!' (er, congratulations, but so do quite a few people last time I checked...). A bit further down the street, the police ended up being called to a parking dispute that got a bit out of hand Shock. Very sensitive issue for some people, apparently...

I definitely would not get into sending notes back and forth though, that's passive-aggressive and silly, and likely to lead to misunderstandings. If you want to discuss it, knock on the door and have a chat in person. Or ignore and don't engage at all. Up to you really.

I can hardly wait to hear Calma's next installment - although I fear the reason she hasn't got back to the thread is because the neighbours have reacted badly and wedged her under her own windscreen wiper...

one of my neighbours is a note writer....yes Brian can't drive for toffee I am talking about YOU!

I have rarely been so angry, and I saved the note because apparently it's fine for all his visitors to park opposite the drive but not for anyone else's ....sadly the day I needed the note to pop onto one of his visiting offending cars it was missing....i think dh threw it away.

I have given him evils from the kitchen window my another of my friends popped in for coffee and left her car opposite the drive....dh said I was not allowed to do the "eyes-fingers-eyes" watching you gesture.

And he doesn't pick up after his dog. He is THAT sort.

Parking is my bugbear
Last house I had space for 2 cars outside but was the only house on the road that did. Opposite neighbour insisted on parking on my drive despite speaking to him, showing him the deeds etc etc because "that drive doesn't belong to you" Angry
I am a note writer now, my space is not outside my house but is numbered with my house number. People still park in it which is irritating when I come in from work at 2am and have to walk down a road with no streetlights. Or they block me in - my job means I can be called out to an emeergancy and I need to get out then, not when I have found car owner. One pleb decided to cross his arms, refuse to get out my space, ask me where he was meant to park and say I couldn't prove the space belonged to me Angry

Selyna · 25/02/2012 11:57

Well either way if someone gave me such a crappy excuse for why they are telling me where I could and could not park, I would be handing back the note and telling them where they can stick the note!
