Bang on the ceiling. That's too early, even if you are up. If you were still asleep then it would have been worse!
YANBU

unreasonable. You live in a flat, you have to expect to hear noise. Its only TV in the morning, not an all night party

xkittyx · 15/02/2012 10:22

YANBU. We're moving due to our inconsiderate upstairs neighbours, after years of having lovely considerate people living above us.
So horrified was I by the new bunch that I'm moving to a detached house!

MrsPresley · 15/02/2012 10:25

Maybe he has a hearing impairment?

And genuinely doesnt realise how loud it is, I know my mum has and I can hear her TV outside!

MixedBerries · 15/02/2012 10:31

YANBU in wanting some quiet but YABU is assuming he's doing it on purpose. I'd go up a bit later, knock on the door and ask nicely if he could try to keep the noise down. Explain why it bothers you. He probably will be reasonable.

If, on the other hand, he reacts badly despite your reasoned politeness, you have every right to be angry!

Flats are noisy places- especially at 6.30 AM as anything carries due to the relative quiet everywhere else. You do have my sympathy though!

CaurnieBred · 15/02/2012 10:39

YANBU. Check your leasehold deeds - there should be something in the covenant about times when quiet times should be observed. I'm sure 0630 hrs is classed as too early.

GoingForGoalWeight · 15/02/2012 13:19

YANBU - too early! Thank goodness i have good neighbours with regards to noise but sadly one of them not altogether sane!

upahill · 15/02/2012 13:23

He could be hard of hearing.

It's not unreasonable to watch tv at 6.30am

In fact I would rather have tv noise than a military brass band music played on full volume while the pisshead home owner wasn't even in the house between 1.00am and 5.30am!!!

LadySybilDeChocolate · 15/02/2012 13:28

We're planning on moving due to the inconsiderate bastards next door. I get patio doors slamming throughout the night, arguments at 2am and loud music as early as 06:45 (am). Some people shouldn't have neighbours. It's not unreasonable to watch TV at 06:30, there's no need to watch it loudly though. Is he hard of hearing?

upahill · 15/02/2012 13:40

Our next door neighbour (she died about 8 years ago) used to have the t v on full blast and it used to drive me insane. Everynight at 9.30pm it would stop and that is when she went to bed.

I couldn't get mad at her as she was very old and very deaf. She used to make such a fuss over the boys and buy them lovely presents but I used to get upset over the noise. I used to bitchily say DH 'no need to switch ours on, we know excatly what's happening in The Bill!!'
It was just a sad fact of ageing and she struggled by herself with her hearing aid.

The other case about the fella and his frigging brass band music - well at times I was that knackered and worn out with it I could have happily throttled him. god knows what happened to him after I left the area but I was coing close to bumping him off on the quiet!

samandi · 16/02/2012 21:27

Forgot about this thread! Was half asleep. Yes perhaps he doesn't realise, but it was irritating and I still think it's inconsiderate - I tip toe about in the morning so as not to disturb folks downstairs and wouldn't dream of putting tv or music on because I know how even quiet sounds can carry.

He's nowhere near as bad as other neighbours I've had and this morning was much quieter so think things will be ok :-)

Pleased to hear it, OP! Living in a flat can be very grating with all the noise.
