Am moving into a new house soon (fingers crossed!) Previous house with ex was all cream & brown, and I wasn't really able to put my stamp on it.

It's just going to be me and my daughter living in it and am tempted to move away from all the cream and blandness and go for colour. Am thinking colourful sofa and curtains, while keeping everything else minimalist(ish!).

I think I might be going crazy but....

DD who is 3 loved this sofa:

Whereas I loved how cosy and comfortable this one was:

Am I having a mid-life crisis??
Or does anyone else think I shoudl go for either of these??

I like them both but perfer the pink one.

My house is painted/decorated in bright colours - I'd say go for it.

New range of paint colours in Wilkinsons this week too. There's one called Hot Gossip which would go with the pink sofa.

That paint colour is lovely!
I have been looking at sofas for a while now and all the brown/cream ones look so boring!

Colour! Definitely!

Why on earth would you ask whether or not you're being unreasonable?

Colour in houses is fab. We've recently decorated our bedroom in lime green and purple. Not everyone's cup of tea but I think it looks lovely.

I really dislike bland and (IMO) boring cream and detest brown in every way, shape or form (apologises to everyone with a cream and brown living room, it's just my opinion). Everyone needs a bit of colour to brighten up their day.

I have a feeling that it's been minimalist for so long that it will turn the other way soon. Then we will be up to date again Grin

You are buying a sofa from dfs??? Why????

holidaywoe · 15/02/2012 08:36

After starting off as everywhere brown and cream we are gradually introducing colour to our house and its finally (after 8 years!!) starting to feel like my house as opposed to a page from a next catalogue!!!
I love the pink sofa but wouldnt have it with the pink paint as the sofa would loose its wow factor.
Whats wrong with a DFS sofa? Not got one but am curious.

Whatmeworry · 15/02/2012 08:37

Colour, but not too dark or the house gets all gloomy.

Sorry should be cream and brown!

Our home in the UK was white. White everywhere.

Which was really very dull.

Until I bought Ikea sofas and indulged in bright and colourful covers for them - with the added bonus that a new set of covers was substantially cheaper than a new sofa and that lots could be washed! this is just one website that does extra covers.

It meant that I changed the covers (and cos I was frugal innit) the curtains when the clocks changed, so lovely thick red warm ones for winter, cool blues/greens/pinks for summer.
