to believe that you can never make your children "too happy" ?

In a nutshell, not having had the most idyllic childhood I have tried to give my kids a stable home with love, encouragement and lots of laughs.

According to my brother (who has no children of his own and never had a long lasting relationship) I am not preparing them for the hard times ahead in adulthood as my home is "too happy" and not a good reflection of what life is (which is miserable in his case) I have thought about this a long time. Could he be right ?

No he is wrong and you are right. End of! :)

A stable home with lots of love and hugs and laughs is exactly what they need to help them get through the various hard times of adulthood. You can get past them easier if you are happy and positive which is what a happy family life helps you to become.

Happy kids = happy adults. It's your job to make them happy. Adult life will be much easier if you're prepared with a happy childhood. You'd think your brother would see that being the (miserable) product of an unhappy household. It's a shame he can't be happy that his nieces/nephews are surrounded by love, something you can NEVER have too much of. Ignore him.

Hes been scarred by what was maybe a miserable childhood , of course children can be prepared for adult life if they have a happy home , as long as you still arnt wiping noses at 30 then i think you will be fine as will your children Smile
