to expect a 10 year old to finish his biscuit?

I don't mind a child trying anything to see if they like it - it's a good thing in my mind as it widens their taste experiences. Anyway, I always give just a small amount of whatever it is (teaspoonful for example) and if they like it then they can have more. If they don't then nothing's lost.

However, surely a 10 year old should finish a small amaretti (spelling?) biscuit, not eat half of it, try to put it back on the plate and then say he was going to put it in the bin as he didn't like it. I can understand that they're not to everyone's liking, but I think it's rude to just not finish what you've started to eat. It's not a very big biscuit, and I think the principle is to just eat something that you've started.

No big deal really, just wondered what anyone else thought?

yes. do you eat everything you do not like?

aldiwhore · 13/02/2012 17:08

YABU

If you don't like the first bite, why on earth should you finish it.

He shouldn't have put it back on the plate though, but its not a hanging offence.

You're being precious. You eat it...

lostboysfallin · 13/02/2012 17:09

it's hardly a hanging offence

brandysoakedbitch · 13/02/2012 17:09
Biscuit
SilentBoob · 13/02/2012 17:09
Biscuit
hellhasnofury · 13/02/2012 17:09

If you don't like it why finish it?

If you don't try it how will you know if you like it?

Sevenfold · 13/02/2012 17:09

yabu
why should he finish it, Is he yours?

Distended · 13/02/2012 17:09

principle? Really?....

Its a biscuit. He didn't like it

bananatrifle · 13/02/2012 17:09

I was brought up to eat what was on my plate and I guess that's still in my makeup.

Just seems a waste in my mind as someone else could have eaten it.

Yabu! He said he didn't like it! Confused

valiumredhead · 13/02/2012 17:10

I think a 10 year old is old enough to know wether if wants to finish a biscuit or not.

WorraLiberty · 13/02/2012 17:11

I suppose this is the downside to internet access being freely available to everyone Grin

BoysAreLikeDogs · 13/02/2012 17:11

of course he shouldn't eat it

how odd that you think he should

he was polite, didn't spit out a mouthful on the plate, offered to bin it, what's the problem?

FunnysInTheGarden · 13/02/2012 17:11

YABU. How would he known whether he liked it if he didn't try it. Why didn't you eat it?

FoofFighter · 13/02/2012 17:11

Was it your DS? If so I'd have eaten it myself - if it were mine not yours I mean :)

I think a lot of problems are/have been created by the clear your plate even if you are full mentality.

ObiWan · 13/02/2012 17:12

I can actually remember the first time I tried an amaretti biscuit. It was vile , and not at all what I'd expected ( I am a biscuit fiend).

Why on earth would you expect anyone to eat/finish something they didn't like?

Distended · 13/02/2012 17:12

Why the actual fuck would he offer round a half eaten buisquit?

Distended · 13/02/2012 17:13

buisquit?...biscuit of course.Grin

bananatrifle · 13/02/2012 17:13

I think I'm definitely the odd one out here.

I don't believe in the eating everything on your plate thing. That's why so many people struggling with food and weight issues. Yes, it was wasted but presumably, he didn't know he wouldn't like it, so he tried it and then left half of it.

If he didn't like it then it would be wasted whether he ate it or not. And it's worse to waste it by ingesting uneccesary calories than it to waste it by throwing it away.

So in most circumstances I think YABU

However, in certain circumstances I think poiliteness deems it necessary for you to finish something you've taken, whether you like it or not. And I think that societal norm should be being followed by age 10, yes.

WorraLiberty · 13/02/2012 17:15

Why the actual fuck would he offer round a half eaten buisquit?

Now I have that Panda bear in my head talking about Foxes buisquits Grin

LaBoccaDellaVerita · 13/02/2012 17:15

@ worra

I cannot believe anyone - or at least anyone with even a few brain cells - would think this matter worthy of the energy of typing it out! It's a fucking biscuit - and an Amaretti one at that. They are small. And they are most definitely an acquired taste being so very strongly almond flavoured. Actually YABU even offering such a thing to a 10 year old.

Now get a bloody grip ffs.
