thinking that schools really should TRY to put the best work up on display

I know that for some best is still pretty poor, but as an outsider visiting a school it looks terrible to have semi illiterate work up on display. I was in a sec school today where almost NONE of the work was correct.

it's a condunrum - celebrate indivdual achievement (not necessarily knowing that the kids might have learning issues and therefore presuming the school has low standards) OR to insist all work up is the very best - therefor acting as a good role model for other kids.

Well that'snot very bloody magnanamous (is that the word i mean?) is it?

I've got shape cutters. Should I hide them? Old Mr Gove'll be changing it all again soon anyway. prescribed painting will probably be the only thing they have todo.Until they can produce a perfect copy of a Kandinstinky - or whatever he's called Grin

Dcs' primary school had a cross-section of the work put up inside the school but on the boards inside the entrance they had what was obviously considered their best work. It was the entrance board work that used to make me cringe: beautifully spelled, neatly written-and so very obviously not in the words of any primary school child. It said something about the standards of honesty in that school.

IUseTooMuch, yes, that makes sense. If my DCs have cutters they will fight over them but when I don't get them out they make blobs really interesting things.
Fortified, that's the thing Her best work should be up there with the others. Every day should not be a competition. Here's your work, do your best. Lovely we'll make a display. I teach adults with SEN in a mainstream college and their work is up all over the place. I think it's the sentiment of it (if it's written work) that's important not the spelling or punctuation. Yes, I like them to try their best but I wouldn't dream of making people doing it again. Everyone has a right to be proud of their acheivement. Ofsted have a lot to answer for because often schools do these things in the hope of getting a tick in the right box.

Cory, exactly.

My issues with Ofsted would take up a whole thread.

Learn how to use an apostrophe, OP, and I'll take your argument seriously.

Has anyone looked at the post by OP on Monday at 16:33,and please notice the level of English used in the context,as long as a person is doing their best and a teacher knows that they are doing their best then I am of the opinion that the work should be displayed, and shame on you for being so critical.

YANBU

Displays should be of the highest standard, in fact no child's work should ever be displayed the teacchers should make displays that are of the aerage degree show (in the case of art teachers).

In fact, if the teacher's do not have perfect hand writing then they can call in outside sonsultants and pay ££££ for perfect displays.
