Is play dough one of the most awful things ever invented?

My dd 4 has it all over the floor in tiny little bits, on her clothes and we constantly have to buy her more as I find it stuffed in places and then gone hard. It also turns alovely colour once its mixed all together which happens often within minutes of new pots being opened.

It is one of her favourite things to play with.

Absolutely not. I get hours of peace in return for about ten minutes cleaning up. It's well worth it.

I look stare longingly at the play dough boxes as I push my baby around the shops and look forward can't wait! to the time baby is old enough for me to play with it!

Plasticine is the work of the devil. You have to knead it for 13433,0000 hours before you can even play with it.

Try having a hamburger making kit, it does not take long for the clours to be mixed, then again maybe it's just my dd.

Absolutely the worst! And the sprinkler kit - what's that all about? Clearly not invented by a parent...you end up with titchy little bits all over the place...and I don't know how Play Doh Nazi's manage to keep all the colours separate - my son just squishes them altogether when I turn my back so we now have lovely grey Play Doh.

Ha! I bought a little playdoh kit today - just six pots and some cutters and moulds, so my two little ones would be entertained this afternoon, as I can't be arsed to talk to them. I am tired.
So far it's been two hours of leaving me the fuck alone great fun!

I love playdough. Stick a plastic mat over your carpet and brush dcs down when they've finished.

Worst toy ever is bloody hamma beads! No matter how vigilant you think you are you will hear them being sucked up every time you use the Hoover. I've found them in the toilet and everywhere. (Once even in my knicker drawer!)

Oh god I hate the stuff. I used to teach in a school where we had it for some insane reason and after a couple of weeks of various snotty, earwaxy, pooey, sweaty hands playing with it would actually start growing little colonies of fungi and other lovely flora. It was easily the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. In the end I put my foot down at a staff meeting and said I refused to touch the stuff. Other teachers chimed in at that point and it was banned. It is making me queasy just thinking about it.

I used to make my own, it cleans up much easier than shop bought playdoh.

Playdoh is wonderful stuff at playgroups. As long as it doesn't enter my house (and I don't have to clear it up) I am happy for its existence to continue!

Another vote for moonsand being the worst...closely followed by moon dough. Don't be fooled into thinking its better than moonsand!

I always hated the bought stuff, it was so hard to pick off the carpet and there is never enough of it. I used to make my own - dirt cheap and only took 5 mins

No! You are all wrong. Bloody glitter glue is the worst thing ever invented. I shall never forget waking up one morning to find my face and pillow covered in a red, viscous substance. Just as I was panicking that I must have had a nose bleed of horrendous proportions I spotted the picture that DD had kindly made for me and left on my pillow as a "surprise" for when I woke up. I was surprised all right! Glitter glue got banned from the bedrooms after that.

What's wrong with playdough/do/doh/whatever? It's delicious and nutritious.

Makes me shudder. Having spent 2 days at dorchester hospital with dd 2 1/2 after she decided to stuff it in her ear! 4 journeys and a general anaesthetic later her dad bought her a present for being so brave. The present? Fairy play doh set. Twat.
