To spend £10 on a haircut for 3yo DS?

At this place?
I have driven past it a few times and thought 'wow I bet DS would love that but I bet they charge £££ and will go bust in 6 months' but I had a look on the site and they charge £10. I know that's a lot (!) for a pre schooler's hair but I'm crap at doing it and it is well overdue. Although it's a lot for a kid's hair, I could afford it. So? Would you?

You seem to think £10 ias a lot even though you can afford it

its a normal barbers price for an under 12..

So not sure why you think your Op BU?

Seona1973 · 11/02/2012 21:02

p.s. we go to the local barbers shop and they both get a lolly out of it too!

EirikurNoromaour · 11/02/2012 21:06

Well trois I am not a big spender and generally don't spend more than I need to on things. As I could cut ds's hair myself (badly) and he is a 3 year old child I thought maybe it was absurd and wasteful to spend £10 on a haircut for him, especially in such a 'yummy mummy' type establishment (which is not me)
I got some replies, decided to try it, and am now reporting back, as at least one other poster on the thread is local.
Is that ok with you?

We went there last week with ds3 to get his haircut (he's 3). First time he's ever sat still and let someone actually finish a haircut!! Worth every penny just for that in my opinion!

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 11/02/2012 21:09

It's £12 here for a kids haircut and that's at the local barbers - nothing special.

I wouldn't go there though, it looks awful.

Meglet · 11/02/2012 21:10

yanbu.

I take the dc's to a kids salon with personal TV's and car chairs. It's the only time they sit still TBH. I gaze at them in amazement as I so rarely get to look at them properly.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 11/02/2012 21:12

DS1 had hair like Simon Cowell by age 3 and when I cut or even clipped it, it looked awful. So I splashed out the 6 quid (7 by the time I added a tip) at our local barber and have never looked back. Both boys love it. They get treated like proper little gents (gel and cologne!!! last time) and their hair no longer looks as though it has been chewed by rats. Or helmet like.

If it's going to while away an afternoon in a pleasant, warm way why not?

troisgarcons · 11/02/2012 21:12

Look love - you took your kid to a funky hair dresser and you are clutching your pearls at spending an affordable 10 quid. Its a hair cut. In pink palace.

10 quid is not out of this world for a normal barbers establishment. I realise you live in the sticks and 10 quid might be above market prices but this is the WWW not Hove Central.

is that OK with YOU ????

CoffeeDog · 11/02/2012 21:14

They charge £9 round here... as i have 2 hairy monkeys who grow hair like rupunzel i bought hair clippers for £20 i do a lovley grade 8 on the boys and they love the buzzing ;)

StarsAndBoulevards · 11/02/2012 21:16

Yanbu. DS went to a similar hairdressers at 18 months, and loved it. (They had tv's in place of the mirrors to avoid little ones getting startled)

My local barbers, btw, charges £8 for DS. I'd add the extra two quid for an experience they'd enjoy.

workshy · 11/02/2012 21:18

I wonder what age they stop sitting in the cars??

my 9 year old would have been mortified lol

bringmesunshine2009 · 11/02/2012 21:20

Not my fight, but trios are you ok? I mean is everything alright with you? Both your responses read as being rather aggressive tbh. OP was quite restrained in her response I thought.

OP, I get it, not wanting to appear frivolous in tough times when others are struggling, do it sounds like a fun place! Our local kids place is £16 which is jaw dropping. I do DS in the bath with nail scissors.

bringmesunshine2009 · 11/02/2012 21:20

Er ds's hair I mean!

EirikurNoromaour · 11/02/2012 21:23

Trois you are a weirdo Grin

They have 2 seats with x boxes for older boys Shock

OP posts:
peggyblackett · 11/02/2012 21:23

We pay £10 for each of our dcs, so I think its probably the going rate. One salon near us charges £17 Shock.

EirikurNoromaour · 11/02/2012 21:24

£17!!!

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 11/02/2012 21:26

Trois you are a weirdo

I think you're weirdist Grin

I just cant see the agg over 10 quid for a hair cut which seems an average price.

Clearly I'm having a moment or two - but I cant see what U about 10 quid for hair cut (granted, hairdressers dress like elves is somewhat different!)

peggyblackett · 11/02/2012 21:27

I know - daylight flipping robbery. Mind you, if they could cut ds's hair without a scene I would consider it .

EirikurNoromaour · 11/02/2012 21:28

Oh nothing is U obviously. That's what ayboo is for innit?

foreverondiet · 11/02/2012 21:53

I live in London and boys haircut at barber is £5. Now we have clippers and DH cuts Ds1's (aged 5) hair. Both DH and DS1 happy with this but will not let DH anywhere near DS2 (only 22 months).

foreverondiet · 11/02/2012 21:56

But have looked at the link and would totally take them there for £10 but in London would probably be £20 Sad

Glittertwins · 11/02/2012 22:02

We pay £9 each now. It used to be half price at my salon on a Monday but then for some reason some stupid junior tried to tell me I'd have to pay £20 per child so I told them to stuff it and complained to her manager. I'm a decent customer, I've used them for 15 yrs.
I'd try your place OP, if I was near (just for cut though, they're too young for the rest!)

YankNCock · 11/02/2012 22:11

My mobile hairdresser charges £3 for DS. I asked once at the local salon what it would be for him, and they said it was only a 20% discount off the adult price. We're on a debt management plan now, and it really helps that it's only £22 every 8 weeks for me and DS to have our hair cut. I do DH's myself with the clippers.
