Was walking my poor doggy minding our own business and two dogs jumped on her and pinned her to the ground and bit her. She screamed. I took her to the vets and she has sutures and anti-biotics and I am eyeing the wine and frankly in a State.

Pore ol her and me Sad

Minimammoth · 09/02/2012 19:10

Hope you a little more relaxed now Hully,it must have been very frightening, the sound of dogs attacking is scary. You have been very brave. It's ok to cry too. Sending the vibes.

Hepsibaaah · 09/02/2012 19:15

Thi is one of my worst nightmares :( , hope your dog is soon better HG...I wonder what he'll be like around other dogs now though?

My terrier was attacked as a puppy and is horrific around other dogs, terrible case of dog aggression, he's walked in a half-choke & halter & muzzle if there are loose dogs around. I get so worried about other dogs approaching us I carry a tin of dog corrector spray to deter them.

LucyGoose · 09/02/2012 19:29

Big hugs Hully and doggie! I know how this is and its absolutely frightening. My terrier x was almost attacked by a pitbull off its lead, and my husband had to stand in between it and my dog and shout & kick at it so it would keep away.
The useless teens who had it could not control it at all.
He came home and was shaking, as was my dog.

cocolepew · 09/02/2012 19:30

My friends dog was attacked and the police said they didn't investigate dog on dog attacks Shock

Hope you're both recovering.

cocolepew · 09/02/2012 19:32

At the school gates a few years ago a german shepherd, off the lead and being taught by the owner to jump up and bite his arm Hmm, attacked a puppy. It was literally pulled to pieces. It was absolutely horrific.

Hullygully · 09/02/2012 19:33

Stupid me didn't manage to record the man's number on my phone...

dh is suggesting laminated notices

doggy just wants more food

there are little spots of blood everywhere

That's horrible. I remember seeing an off lead/ no owner staffie attack and injure another dog whilst I was out with the DCs when they were weeks old. The victim's owner didn't quite know what to do, another man managed to pull it off and I called the police. They said I shouldn't have called 999 but I said the chap could have been badly bitten. I popped in to see the lady a few weeks later and the owner had paid her vets bills as well as her dog recovering. It happened on the green right outside her house too so not somewhere easy to avoid

LiamsMummyJaz · 09/02/2012 19:47

My poor SBT got attacked by 2 huge boxers that were off a lead once... It traumatised him for life! So much so when he got jumped by a vile little jack and a springer he collapsed and I had to carry him home :( (all 5 stone of him)
If a dog is not safe and under control it should never be off a lead end of!!

Psammead · 09/02/2012 19:47

Oh dear Sad

Poor dog. I hope she's not too nervous about the whole thing now. Are her wounds bad?

Look after yourself, Hully. What a horrid experience.

This happened to me twice in a matter of months walking my springer collie cross. Both times where staffies off the lead, one was two staffies, the second time it was what looked like a big staffie but skinnier?

It was horrible and has left me with a hatred for the breed - I feel awful as Im well aware its not the dogs fault but as soon as I see a staffie now I tense up.

I reported both to the police OP on the regular phone number for local station. Simply because the unprovoked element and the way they also turned on me when I tried to help my dog made me concerned that they may attack again.

Hullygully · 09/02/2012 21:04

Having another small cry.

One of the things that was so horrid was the Akita walking towards us really slowly. I wouldn't have thought anything if the owner hadn't been chasing it having a breakdown.

I'm getting a gun.

signet2012 · 09/02/2012 21:14

I had my DP with me luckily or unluckily which way you look at it. He kicked the staffies until they left go and repeatedly punched the bigger one in the head and back until it let go, unfortunately it appeared quite badly injured as a result and kept sitting down after when it went back to its owner which broke my heart. DP felt sick all night that he had hurt it but said it would have killed our dog, and when I tried to pull the dog off it had lunged at me so DP was not taking any chances with it. We both kept replaying it over and over, did our dog snarl without us seeing? Did we somehow scare it? The second case with the bigger dog, it walked towards us and attacked my dog from behind.

It really is awful Hully, I think it took me a good couple of weeks to stop replaying it and thinking about it often.

I wish I knew what the right thing to do is in these circumstances... Im pretty sure me going straight in the middle at the pointy end is only getting me hurt too but I cant bear to stand and watch my dog get savaged.

Wine Hully, and lots of doggy cuddles.4
For what its worth, my dogs neck was badly ripped due to second dog attack and he wouldn't let the vet see it was too frightened to let anyone near him, the vet said he wasn't keen on putting him under due to his other health conditions so said to leave it 14 days and unless it seemed infected to come back. Apart from feeling a little sorry for himself and very guarding of his neck and ears he did actually seem to have forgotten all about it within a few days, it was much harder on us than him in all honesty.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

SparkleSoiree · 09/02/2012 21:16

Oh Hully that is awful. I hope your doggy recovers soon.

Hullygully · 09/02/2012 21:19

I'd be balling my eyes out. I feel so sorry for you. I have 2 springers and I think other bloody dog walkers are so stupid. How did the dog slip it's lead? One of my dogs is as soft as s*t, the other one is a s*t! I daren't let my dodgy dog off the lead and it's one of those harnesses that go over the face and then I double clip the lead again onto the collar. I don't know how many times other dog owners say it's ok my dog's fine, now I just shout my dog's not. My dog became nasty after he had been attacked as a puppy and flung around like a rag doll. I really feel for you as it's such a horrible thing to witness and I would have started the wine a long time ago. I don't think people understand how dodgy dogs can be. My mum had a Yorkshire Terrier and somehow it was always able to create real trouble and stir things up between dogs. It would always walk away really proud of itself. The bloody rat dog my husband would call it!!

TheMonster · 09/02/2012 21:22

Oh Hully you poor thing, and your poor dog.
I worry about my two dogs - they are very aggressive to other dogs. For that reason we don't walk them together and they have a harness and not just a collar.

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 09/02/2012 21:24

Gun - the only way forward, or big fuck off anti-snarly dog boots??

TheMonster · 09/02/2012 21:24

Signet, I've just read your posts Sad My two are staffie-crosses and they just are not usually friendly with other dogs.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 09/02/2012 21:25

Hully :(

I hope you are both feeling a lot better about it all tomorrow. I wouldn't do anything more about it given you don't have his number. Fingers crossed he's learnt his lesson and will be a lot more careful from here on in. If you see him again, hit him up for the vets bills and tell him he was bloody lucky not to get a visit from the police.

'Gun - the only way forward, or big fuck off anti-snarly dog boots??'

Grin

How unlike the usual advice on MN dog threads.

signet2012 · 09/02/2012 21:42

I feel awful generalising I certainly do not want to front the "staffies are evil kill all staffies gang" My friend as two which are lovely but I am quite frightened and apprehensive now.

The worst of it is, my dog has nervous aggression and has in the past tried to snap at people walking past too close, bicycles etc and snarled at dogs, so he is on a lead unless I can see for miles there is nobody about (ie on our local beach) he has excellent recall (for all he is a shit) and he was until these two attacks muzzled. I refuse to muzzle him now on the basis that he can at least defend himself that way.

I wish people wouldnt let their dogs off the lead or get them proper fitted leads if there is any uncertainty of their character and also be close enough to step in if any issues as you can never 100% trust any animal to be predictable.
