To think you don't say you'll be here in '10 minutes'

and then not turn up or call for over an hour?

Fucking Virgin Media! Phoned yesterday as we've got no dial tone on our landline. Was told engineer would be here last night before 7pm. Guy rang at about 6:30 saying he was stuck on a job, could he come tomorrow? Yes, sure, fine, can it be as early as possible.....

Oh yes, I start at 8am he says. I'll ring you in the morning.

So he rings at 8:15 this morning, says 'I'll be there in 10 minutes' and confirms the address.

It is now......9:38! No phone call, nothing. I'm sitting here with dirty hair, needing a shower, but didn't want to jump in in case I missed him!

I'm loathe to phone an 0845 number from my mobile, just so I can reach an overseas call centre and be put on hold for ages.

So I will sit here and seethe.

I do hope the guy hasn't been in an accident or anything, but for his sake, it better be something good!

YANBU.

Does your userid reflect what you're going to do to him?

YankNCock · 09/02/2012 09:41

Perhaps I should change to KickHimInTheCock? Grin

YANBU - if we don't all agree on what "10 minutes" means then the phrase is meaningless.

Have you tried Say no to 0870 to try to find a cheaper number to call?

ZillionChocolate · 09/02/2012 09:42

Can you stick a note on your front door saying 'I'm in, but it might take me a while to get to the front door, please be patient"? Then jump in the shower quickly.

YankNCock · 09/02/2012 09:43

fab, OnlyANinja, found a number and will call now!

RESULT!

Well, sort of. I've made a formal complaint, and Virgin Media gave me £20 credit on my bill (they offered £10, I said £20, they offered £15, I said £20 = got £20 Grin)

The guy turned up at 10:15, and seemed dumbfounded that I was annoyed. I said '10 minutes?' and he said 'oh....yeah....sorry...I got caught on another job'. I said, 'how is that possible, seeing as you told me you start at 8am and I was your first visit? Do you realise I've been stuck waiting here for 2 hours, expecting you any minute?' 'uh....um....all I can do is apologise'. Git.

I told him I would be making a complaint. Then while I was on the phone with Virgin customer services, he walked out of the house saying nothing to DH and disappeared with his van. We thought he'd done a runner! He eventually came back though.

I got my shower, I didn't want to talk to him again. So as he left, DH politely admonished him again, saying he should have rang us.

I have a feeling that because he put off doing my job last night as he was meant to, he couldn't tell his dispatcher or whoever that when they gave him another job this morning. But definitely out of order to leave me hanging for two hours!

Well done on staying strong on the £20!

Yes well done indeed. This sort of thing p**ses me off.

We were once expecting a delivery from the supermarket and had booked a 6-8pm slot on a Friday. 8pm came and went and there was no sign. Eventually, at almost 9pm, we rang to find out what was happening and the person on the other end said "He is just around the corner now, he will be with you in 10 minutes".

At gone 10pm when we rang again they said they were really sorry but it would be first thing in the morning. We had to go out ourselves the next day and had already decided we had to leave the house at 11am no matter what. Delivery turned up at about 10:45am.

Thing is there wasn't much point us being short with the delivery man who bought the stuff on Saturday morning because he probably wasn't the same person who should have delivered the night before. But I was furious about the lying f***r on the phone the night before who told us he was just around the corner. If they had said they had a real problem and couldn't deliver until the next day I would have been annoyed, but not as annoyed as being jerked around and told something that they must have known was untrue.

That was positively the last time we ever had home deliveries from them.
