To buy a really cute babygrow before I'm even pregnant?

We've been TTC for 7 months now with no luck, but I've just seen a really cute babygrow that features one of my hobbies that I'd love to got for my (future) kiddies! Am I tempting fate by buying it? It's already out of stock in 6-12mths and I don't want it to sell out before I get pregnant!

I'm not in the superstitious camp but I do think it's a very strange thing to do. I don't have a dog, but am thinking of getting one. I'm certainly not looking at dog accessories and nor would I think of buying anything dog related until I knew I was actually getting one. Agree with poster who said its like buying a wedding dress when you don't have a wedding in prospect. Very odd indeed.

It's not superstitious.

It's Miss Havisham and her wedding dress and very very odd. Sorry.

Not remotely odd to buy a wee babygro when you're TTC, it is part of the hope and excitement and general nice expectation of things to come. I'm sure I did similar - just odd things, not an immense shrine or owt.

In the olden days ladies had a "bottom drawer" with all sorts squirrelled away for the future. Go for it Grin and good luck.

It cannot possibly 'jinx' anything, what will be will be.

However I had a friend who started putting some 'bits aside' for a couple of years while trying for a baby, she had a little drawerful by the time she did get pregnant, she miscarried at 17 weeks Sad When I went to see her she was in bed with all these little babygros everywhere, sobbing. It was just heartbreaking.

So, no, I wouldn't. I didn't buy anything for mine until after the 21 week scan and nothing major until about 34 weeks.

I would buy it and by a teddy bear to put it on. :)

Good point Smethwick, about the bottom drawer.

crocodilesmiles · 08/02/2012 11:47

I would buy it! In fact I bought some baby clothes without being pregnant. I thought it was quite a common thing to do - Didn't know the idea would get such a negative reaction on here.

I hope you get pregnant soon x

I dont believe in superstitious squit. Buying a babygro is NOT going to affect your fertility, fact. If you want it, get it.
Happy humping OP

If I were you i'd buy it.

It won't affect whether you get pregnant or not. Or the baby dies or not.

If the worst happens you would at least have something tangible to hold and cry into. Poster above says how awful it was to see her mate crying over baby clothes - but it would have hurt her just as much if they weren't there.

All I have is a mothercare catalogue from my miscarriage. A babygro would be much nicer.

On a lighter note - we all need silly bits of luxury in our lives so go for it. Hoping it happens for you this year.
