Cant stand this implant in my arm anymore

I have had 3 contraceptive implants in my arm,had 2 then had a break for a couple of years then got the 3rd one put in about a year ago.

Nothing but problems, first of all it was put in by a trainee because i thought " they have to learn" the bruise i was left with for 2 weeks was an unexpected surprise because the young guy was very gentle. It is also very visible through the skin, (last two you couldn't see them)

I then had constant bleeding for about 3 months, nothing for ages, then bleeding again! Serious Pregnancy symptoms, To the point i actually started to believe i was. if i have to pee on a stick again, i am not going to be happy.

And now over the last month, my arm where the implant is, is so itchy I am actually grazed from scratching it.

So my problem is, i want it out! I cant get it out unless i sit at the open clinic from 8am till possible 12, because they have no appointments for 6 weeks.

On a different note, my DP who i am marrying in October, has no issue with condoms, so we could use them. Dont want anything long term as will be TTC after i get married. Thou I would quite happily sack the wedding and have a baby now. My Hormones are out of control! Dont know if i should get it out or just wait until about september.

The Condom thing is all very well but we didnt use them once and i became pregnant but had MMC at 9 weeks, and it totally destroyed him. So he is already freaking about the whole TTC thing.

Cant really go on any other contraceptives, and the coil freaks me out.

So can anybody sort my head out and give me a plan.

Definitely have the implant taken out now. It should be possible to have it removed by making an appointment with a general nurse at your local GP surgery I'd have thought. It doesn't sound like it;s been inserted properly, though it's possible you may be having a local allergic reaction to it. Either way, don't wait.

I had two implants - the first was wonderful, the second gave me problems. It's based on purely anecdotal evidence but I've reached the opinion that implants produce cumulative side effects and I'd never have another.

Secondly, go POAS. It's unlikely, but no contraceptive is 100% reliable and if the implant hasn't been inserted properly or you're having a reaction to it, the chances are greater. If you're not pregnant, the implant's been removed and your DP is happy to use condoms, stick with condoms until you're ready to TTC.

Finally, talk to your DP about this. While it's your body and your decision about what form of contraceptive to use if it affects your body's natural state, don't be tempted to use his fear of miscarriage and thus TTC to present him with a fait accompli by having the implant removed without telling him, getting pregnant, waiting until you've passed the risk period and then announcing your pregnancy as this could encourage a communication problem in your relationship and damage his trust in you.

Good luck with the wedding and TTC. Smile

When mw of doc try to get me to have an implant or injection I always tell them not to bother.

Never going to happen and I'm sick of them having this big push for them. It's
So annoying

I feel your pain! Got an appointment on Friday to demand discuss having mine removed. I'm on the combined pill just so I don't bleed (Bled so heavily for the first 2 months I felt like dying. The mood swings are shocking and I too keep "feeling" pregnant. (not possible as no sex drive = no sex- poor DP)

I've also gained over a stone what with the pill as well. Gutting as I'd lost all my baby weight after DC2's birth. Although that might be due to the AD's I'm on for PND. Honestly I'm never using any kind of contraception that messes with my hormones ever again!

thanks, changed name for a dickens feel.

I am trying to get a day off to go and sit at the clinic in the morning, possibly thursday. As cant get anything but an engaged tone at my doctors surgery.

DP happy with the condom situation, and is sick of the "fear" with all the crazy pregnancy feelings.

Nasty implant!! the first 2 were so good. ruined my no thinking contraceptive. :(
