And I think I will go to bed as I am now too tired to type on my phone, clearly

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:35

I haven't seen any of them. The only ones I've seen are the ones about people claiming various benefits dishonestly and the benefits cap.

MmeLindor. · 06/02/2012 21:36

I came on all frothed up to defend the Frothers, and you mean the other ones. Phew.

That Mail article is ridiculous.

It is full of inaccuracies, exaggerations and downright lies. A mobility car - even a BMW for a "small downpayment". Don't know about you, but I find £1399 to £9900 quite a large downpayment

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:36

Bumbley, well, lucky you :)

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:37

Eek, I am sorry my title is misleading, I thought I was well known as a lefty type benefit defender on here

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:38

Are you specifically referring to disability benefits frothers? Your title suggests that this article should somehow set all benefit frothers straight but I don't see how it would/could do that...

pointythings · 06/02/2012 21:38

bumbleymummy I wonder what papers you read then...

pointythings · 06/02/2012 21:39

bumbleymummy you can honestly read that Guardian article the OP links to and not think that something dreadful is wrong?

Words fail...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:39

Bumbleymummy, well, to me it is clear

OP posts:
MmeLindor. · 06/02/2012 21:40

I understood what you meant, when I saw the article you linked to.

And, yes, when I looked at your name - read the article first. Was just the first moment.

IDoNotLIKEFun · 06/02/2012 21:42

God I remember that, "Naughty kid? Fill in this four-line form and get a free £30K car" article Fanjo.

Angry

Did they apologise in the end?

bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:43

Which ones would you recommend pointy? They're all doom and gloom about something I find...I was talking about not seeing people frothing about disability benefits on MN anyway.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:44

IDoNotLikeFun..yes, they had to, but did it in a very un-noticeable manner

OP posts:
georgethecat · 06/02/2012 21:45

God its scary, there is no such thing as society and looking after those who need it. I am a taxpayer and my view has always been, I am lucky to not suffer from a disability, however it is always possible that some point in the future I could do and would need help. I can't bear the blinkeredness of some 'I pay my taxes' benefit pitchfork mob, you never know what may happen to you. Whats next reopen the workhouses?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:46

Exactly..I think some would support that actually

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:47

"you can honestly read that Guardian article the OP links to and not think that something dreadful is wrong?"

Eh? Where have I said that? I was simply saying that I don't see too many people frothing about disability benefits on MN- most of the frothing seems to be over people complaining about the benefits cap while still managing to buy cigarettes/alcohol/sky tv/mobiles etc.

pointythings · 06/02/2012 21:48

The point is that there is a rise in violence and abuse against disabled people because of the kind of stories that the right-wing media have been spouting. The OP's original link makes that quite clear.

Set against threads on here (and there have been many) along the lines of 'should I report so and so for benefit fraud?' and the responses many of the more sympathetic posters have had, there is something to worry about. Whipped on by the media and by this government, we are all losing compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves.

I think that's a societal trend worth worrying about.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:49

I have read at least 500 times on MN about people posters claim are on the fiddle and pretending to be sick/disabled

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:50

Oh good grief...here we go again with the 'if you complain about people affording unnecessary, luxury items on benefits then you must want to reopen the workhouses'. Nonsense. Why do you have to jump to extremes?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:51

I said SOME might agree with that not all, it is you who are generalising

OP posts:
MmeLindor. · 06/02/2012 21:52

Bumbley
I have read that kind of post on MN often.

And actually, the problem is that due to articles like the DM one linked to earlier, this thinking is so entrenched in the minds of many Brits that they lump all benefit recipients together as "scroungers".

Disabled people are left feeling they have to constantly justify themselves, justify their condition, their existence.

bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:54

So this article proves that no one ever fiddles? Hmm I'm sure some people do but that doesn't mean all! If someone has previously posted about a friend/family member who they know is is honestly claiming then this article is hardly going to make them feel that they were ring or misled is it?

bumbleymummy · 06/02/2012 21:55

I obt think I've seen anyone say that workhouses should be reopened Fanjo.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/02/2012 21:55

Sigh

OP posts:
Sevenfold · 06/02/2012 21:55

I am not at all surprised by this, having seen the anti sn crap and jealously on mn, doesn't suprise me that disabled people are now getting buse in rl
